Every Indian woman values the metti for it brings finesse, respect and
responsibility to those who wear it for it is a proud symbol of one's marital
status.
Tradition of wearing toe rings carries tremendous social significance for married
women in India. There is also a belief that the wearing of toe rings press on
certain nerves that pertain to the reproductive system, which helps in keeping the
system balance and healthy. By wearing these rings in both feet, it is believed,
that the menstrual cycle course is regularized with even intervals. This gives good
scope for conceiving to married women.
In many different Indian cultures, the husband puts the toe rings on his wife’s
second toe of both feet, during the wedding ceremony. They come in traditional as
well as chunky designs and are usually made from silver.
Silver toe ring are particularly important in the Indian culture, where married
women wore toe ring to show their marital status. Properly fitted toe rings can be
worn with almost all shoes and footwear with no pain or problems.
