When virani and his brothers bhikhabhai , chandubhai , kanubhai and meghjibhai migrated from a small village in Jamnagar district to Rajkot. Popatbhai virani a farmer who sold ancestral agriculture land and gave rs. 20,000 to his sons to venture into business. Viranis invested money given their father in farm equipments business. Chandubhai and is brother start a new business from a canteen of a cinema hall in Rajkot . Till 1989, wafers used to be made at virani’s house and disteibuted in and around Rajkot city. By the overwhelming retail success they inspired to set a semi automatic plan. The fame of taste reached to the whole Gujarat hence it was time to take over the whole Gujarat so the biggest automatic plant of Gujarat came into the picture.
In the initial stage Balaji group
had set up their plant at Aji vasad with their new concept of making the potato chips. The main benefit they got is the readymade infrastructure availability due to which their cost is reduced to larger extent. They have operated over there around 20 to 22 years.

Now Balaji group has set up their
new fully automatics plant near metoda G.I.D.C. Which is in the area of the village named vajdi and also outside the town of valsad. After setting up the factory valsad, balaji was working on the project of making factory of balaji in Rajkot and then the allowance was passed to balaji to construct balaji factory in Rajkot between rajdhani and khirasra palace and now we can see a huge factory over Rajkot which supplys namkeens to the saurashtra part of Gujarat and even some other parts of Gujarat other than saurashtra. When it comes to cleaning in india , not many industries appear to follow clean and green practices; the gloom and doom in maintaining profitability simply doesn’t let the management concentrate on cleaning. It uses the fully automatic plant which helps maintain cleanliness and hygiene levels of the shops-floor . speaking to clean india journal, Chandubhai virani, MD- Balaji wafers informs, “We have two plants in Rajkot and balsar; each spread over around 35 acres is fully mechanized and automated”. The Rajkot plant is the largest capacity in india which can process 4500kg potatoes and make 1200kg of chips per hour. The namkeen and other product lines have separate departments and these are being products in the same quality conscious processing system “That is the big advantage of this big ‘Balaji’ plant” The ensure fresh product availability across every 100 metres of its market, the company has established a good distribution network. The plants process around three lakh potatoes on a daily basis. Thereafter , the manufactured and ready packets reach the distributors dealers, retailers and consumers. “Taken care by the plant heads, the supervisory deputed are incharge of clraning and maintenance. So far, 50 staff members have been deputed for the cleaning of both the plants. Though, training was being provided initially, the high attrition make the process of training less effective. We are now hiring skilled, educated and experienced people who can do the job efficiently just after a few days training. We have bought ride-on sweepers to clean the plant area. High pressure jet cleaning systems are installed at the shop floor for cleaning the machines. Deep cleaning is done once a week. Among the waste are water and the discoloured potato chips dal that are shot out through air jet. Big ETPs have been installed to process the wastewater and are later used for irrigation purposes. The water is also supplied to chemical factories. Wind too have been established at each of the plants that multiplies the clean and green ingredient the overall carbon black generation. B. WAREHOUSE / PRODUCTION CAPACIT Balaji valsad unit, which has a wafer manufacturing facility of 2,200 kg per hour , is one of the largest potato chips-making units in Asia. The company had sourced the entire plant from USA, Australia, Netherlands, Germany, Japan and China. Even Rajkot is having a huge warehouse of around 2000 kgs. C.
