1. SC upholds OBC quota in NEET
 News: The SC has upheld the constitutional
validity of reservation for OBC candidates in the
All-India Quota seats for NEET.
The National Medical Commission Act, 2019
 Section 14 of the Act provides for holding of a
common and uniform National Eligibility-cum-
Entrance Test (NEET).
 Purpose: for admission to the undergraduate
medical courses in all medical institutions
including those governed under any other law.
 The exam is conducted by National Testing
Agency (NTA).
National Testing Agency (NTA)
 Established in 2017, NTA is an autonomous
organization under the Department of Higher
Education, Ministry of Education.
 NTA is a registered society under the
Societies Registration Act, 1860.
 Domains of NTA includes: JEE (Main), Graduate
Pharmacy Aptitude Test, JNU Entrance, NEET
etc.

2. Focus on rights made India weak, says PM
 News: Shri Narendra Modi said the focus on
fighting for rights in the 75 years since
Independence had kept the country “weak”.
 He was addressing the launch of initiatives
dedicated to Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav of
Culture Ministry with Brahma Kumaris.

3. Govt. caps RT-PCR test at ₹300
 News: The Delhi government has capped the
rate RT-PCR at ₹300 at private labs and
hospitals.
RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription–Polymerase Chain
Reaction)
 RT-PCR is a laboratory method for detecting the
presence of specific genetic material in any
pathogen, including a virus.
 Uses an enzyme (reverse transcriptase) to
change a specific piece of RNA into a
matching piece of DNA.
 A virus is a genetic material surrounded by a
molecular envelope.
 Genetic material can be either DNA/RNA.
 Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA): a two-strand
molecule that is found in all organisms, such as
animals, plants and viruses.
 Holds the genetic code for how these
organisms are made and develop.
 Ribonucleic Acid (RNA): a one-strand molecule-
copies and transmits parts of the genetic code to
proteins.

4. Railway Board’s nod for K-Rail after examining
DPR: Centre
 News: The Railway Board would take a final
decision on the SilverLine project after
examining the Detailed Project Report.

 SilverLine Project, Kerala
 It is a proposed 529.45-km line that will link
Thiruvananthapuram in the south to Kasaragod
in the north (deadline is 2025).
 A semi high-speed railway project that
envisages trains running at 200 km/h.
 Estimated cost: Rs 63,940 crore
 It is executed by the Kerala Rail Development
Corporation Limited (KRDCL) or K-Rail.
 A joint venture between Kerala and the
Union Ministry of Railways.

6. Journalists’ bodies join hands to fight for KPC
 News: Journalists’ bodies and the PCI joined
hands to fight for the restoration of the Kashmir
Press Club (KPC).
 The KPC was recently de-registered by the
J&K government.

the media in India has total freedom of speech.

7. Extended range BrahMos tested
 News: The supersonic cruise missile BrahMos
with improved performance was successfully
flight-tested.
 Location: Integrated Test Range, Chandipur
in Odisha.
 Recently, an extended range ship to ship
BrahMos variant was tested from stealth missile
destroyer INS Visakhapatnam.
 Marking the first major military export by India,
India and the Philippines have signed a $374
million to export BrahMos.

system that can be launched from land, sea and
air.

Russia.
 The range of the missile was originally capped at
290 km.
 Working to extend its range to 400, 800 and

10. Modi and Jugnauth launch projects
