3. Give the genetic content (C) and chromosome number (n) of a diploid cell during the following phases:
a. G1 = 2C, 2n – 46
b. S-phase = 4C, 2n -46
c. G2 = 2C, 2n - 46
d. metaphase = 2C, 2n - 46
e. anaphase = 2C , 2n = 92
f. telophase after cytokinesis = 2C, 2n = 46

11. In Coleus, the somatic cells are diploid with 24 chromosomes. How many of each of the following is
present in each cell at the stage of mitosis and meiosis indicated below?
a. kinetochores at prophase = mitosis – 92, meiosis I -92, meiosis II - 46
b. chromosomes at anaphase = mitosis – 92, meiosis I – 46, meiosis II - 46
c. chromatids at metaphase I = 92

b. anaphase of the first meiotic division

c. anaphase of the second meiotic division

If these same chromosomes were involved in meiosis in a female, would the kind of egg nuclei produced
be different from the sperm nuclei? Why?
Yes, because sperm and egg cells have different cycles of gametogenesis. In males,
spermatogenesis produces four haploid spermatogonium which will eventually turn to four motile sperm
cells. In females, gametogenesis occurs as oogenesis which produces four oocytes, but only one final
ovum will be left while the other three will be polar bodies and eventually disintegrates.
