Dr. Sylvanus Nchinatu Omeonu from Abia State, got his first degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1982 from State
Medical Institute, Kalinin, USSR under the sponsorship of the Federal Government of Nigeria(1975  1982). His
second degree is MCH (Master in Surgery) from the same Institution (1986  1988). He got his Ph.D (Orthopedic
and Trauma) between 1988  1992 from Central Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Moscow, Russia. Dr S.
N Omeonu learned the ilizarov techniques during his post graduate specialist training and has continued to perfect
his skills in the technology since his return to Nigeria in 1992. He was a Senior Registrar at the National Orthopedic
Hospital, Dala, Kano between 1992 and 1996 and founded Jamaa’a Ludmilla Clinics Ltd, Kano in 1994. He was
appointed consultant orthopedic surgeon for Christoffel Blindenmission  Germany in 1996 and posted to Benue
Rehabilitation Hospital, Mkar. Within the four years the contract lasted, Dr Omeonu transformed the rural Benue
Rehabilitation Hospital to a reputable referral Orthopedic Hospital within the Middle Belt Zone of Nigeria.

He founded Hopeville Hospital, Gboko, in 2001and relocated to Port Harcourt in 2003. He is a Senior Lecturer at
Abia State University and Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon for Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba.

The more complicated fractures are often mismanaged. The ones that are available to most orthopedic surgeons
are only adequate to treat simple fractures.
