Course Objectives
1. To understand what nanotechnology is about and how to use it.
2. To gain knowledge on the structure and properties of nanomaterials
3. To gain knowledge on the fabrication methods in nanotechnology (top down & bottom up)
4. To discuss the characterization methods in nanotechnology

Syllabus:
Introduction and scope-Classification of nanostructures, Effect of Nanoscale dimensions on various
properties, Fabrication methods, Characterisation methods, Mechanical Properties,Magnetic and
Thermal properties, Applications of Nanotechnology (nano materials and devices),Carbon
nanotubes: SW, MW, nanostructured coatings, nano sensors- nanomachines, Nanofluids
Course Outcomes :At end of the course students will be able to
CO1. Discuss the properties of nanoscale materials
CO2. Identify the suitable method for the production of nanomaterias
CO3. Discuss the various methods used for the characterisation of nanomaterials
CO4: Acquire knowledge on various nanomachines and sensors
CO5. Explore the properties of nanomaterials to produce fluids with better heat transfer

perception, nanosensor based on quantum size effect, Electrochemical sensors,
Sensors based on physical properties, Nanobiosensors, smart dust-
nanomachines: covalent and non covalent approaches, Molecular motors and
machines, molecular devices, single molecular devices, practical problems with
molecular device

Nanofluids: nanoparticles, preparation of nanofluids, thermophysical properties
