Portfolio Reflection

While really trying to analyze and breakdown each of the essays throughout the year it was quite

hard to truly ridicule my own work. Utilizing basic rhetorical strategies can really give me the

right footing to edit the essays effectively. Identifying rhetorical strategies like description,

comparison, or process can give me a greater view of my goal. Organizing my ideas with these

rhetorical strategies will impart organize the entirety of the essays.

Rhetorical strategies within my website may be a completely different aspect. Conveying

to the viewer my exact projects in the most efficient manner possible is always the goal. On each

page of my website, I made it my business to create a simple introductory explaining the process

I took to create to finished product that they will be reading. Details of each project to give

context of the scenario are always so great to provide for the reader

One activity that involved sharing our drafts with the class publicly gave a great amount of

influence to the work that I have revised. Looking back at the work that has been done within my

drafts and my final draft I am able to understand and look back at the process that I developed to

finish my work. With this specific activity I was able to understand the point of view or the

insight of someone else's work process. Reviewing these essays that were not of my own gave

me the inspiration that I needed to truly round out my work with this new work provided to

analyze. I was in no means plagiarizing or stealing the work of my classmates but I was able to

utilize similar strategies or methods in my own work for my own purpose.

One lesson that I learned in this class was the ability to provide my own input into a

subject. While working on essay two I simply had to research a certain subject and relay the

information to the audience. Informing the reader of the relevant research and studies in this

topic. Essay 3 I was given full freedom of providing my own opinion for the topic in discussion.

With a subject like history this seems to be the main focus for each discussion is to research a

topic and state facts, then relay your own input or your own understanding of the impact of those

events. I can confidently say that I am able to discuss and relay my opinion effectively in my

English class and can utilize this strategy in history courses of all sorts

This course being an English course makes it very hard to have learned a lesson without

being able to implement it into any other courses. The lessons that are taught entail proper use of

MLA formats, revision work, and many other teachings that are all very useful. I don’t believe I

can give any examples of a lesson that I learned in this class that I cannot use in any other

course. Of course, I won't have any use for MLA formats when I am solving equations in my

math courses.

One certain attribute in my essays that I believe has definitely strengthened as a whole is my

ability to distinguish the rights and wrongs of my subjects. While working on the essays of my

previous semester I found it a little difficult to stay on topic. I would be branching out into

different points and clutter my writing in a negative sense. I hopefully have now been able to

mend this issue with the work I have been producing this semester. Focusing on subjects about

electric vehicles which I take a great interest in definitely helps. Examples of this issue being

mended can also be found in my work with the first essay. Throughout the entire essay I have

been able to stay on topic because I am the subject. My day entirely my whole week was the

entire focus of the essay.

The last semester of school during 1301 English I already made a website for a portfolio,

because I already have a little bit of experience working with the program Weebly designed, it

wasn’t very hard at all. Even before my class with 1301 English I had already been familiar with

the Weebly interface from my time in higschool. I was learning commercial film,

communications, and radio with a magnet school called Vidal M Trevino. I was able to learn the

program there when I had different portfolios and demo reels to publish on the internet. I

suppose one issue that I have with the website building process is the work that I must do to keep

everything organized. I want to keep everything clean and tidy but still provide enough

information about the project.

I believe that because this is the last of my essays and that I know this will be the conclusion of

my first year at TAMIU I like to think that I gave it my best try. I like to think thati was able to

organize and utilize all the strategies that I learned to truly finish this year off. I definitely have a

great amount of room for improvement, but I like to think that I have bettered my writing since I

have started.
