The solution of the question is as follows:

Step-by-step explanation

Designing of CT ratio and plug setting:

 At relay D, assuming 25% overload is 70A+ (0.25×70) = 87.5A

Assuming 1A relay to be used, CT ratio can be selected to be 90:1, then plug setting can be done at 100%. Hence, ps=1.0A

At relay C, assuming 25 % overload is (70A+77A) + (0.25x 147)= 183.75A

Assuming 1A relay to be used, CT ratio can be selected to be 200:1, the plug setting can be done at 100%. Hence, ps=1.0A

 At relay B, assuming 25 % overload is (70+77 +100 ) + (0.25x247)= 308.75A

If 1A relay to be used, CT ratio can be 310:1, then plug setting can be done at 100%. Hence, ps= 1.0A

 At relay A, the max current = (70+77 +100+80) + (0·25x327)= 408.75A

If 1A relay to be used, CT ratio can be 410:1, then plug setting can be done at 100%. Hence, ps=1.0A

The operating time of RD for maximum fault is TR,D= 0.14 (TMS)/PSM0.02-1

for max fault at D,
fault current = 8000 A primary
Primary side, becomes 2000/90 = 22.22A Secondary
Since, plug setting = 1.0A

PSM relay = Irelay/ps =22.22 /1 =22.22

Find study resources 숿
TR,D=(0.14×0.1)/22.220.02-1 = 0.218 sec.
Let TCB,D= 0.5sec
then, TR,D +TCB, = 0.21+ 0.5=0.71 sec .
This 0.71 sec is desired operating RC time Assuming 10% of overshoot time of Rc, we get,
TR,C = 0.21+0.5+0.071 = 0.781sec.
TMS of RC can be determined by
0.781 = 0.14 (TMS)/PSM0.02-1
Since, PSM= Irelay /ps = (2000/200)/1 =10
Therefore, TSM = 0.781(100.02-1)/0.14 = 0.262
For max fault at B, fault current = 5000 A.
Primary side becomes 5000 /310 = 16.18A secondary.
Since, ps=1.0A, PSM = 16.12/1 =16.12.
TMS is set for 0.3 sec
TR,B= 0.14 (0.3)/16.120.02-1 =0.735 sec TCB,D= 0.5 sec
then,
TR,B+TCB,D= 0.735 +0.5= 1.235 sec.
1.235 sec is desired operating time of RA. Assuming 10% overshoot time of RA
We get,
TR,A max fault current at B =0.735+0.5+1.235
= 1.3585 sec.
TMS of RA can be found by
1.3585= 0.14(TMS)/ PSM0.02 - 1
Since, PSM= 5000/ 410= 12.19
Now, TSM= 1.3585 (12.190.02-1)/0.14
Therefore, TSM= 0.4976 sec.
