Daily Lesson Plan Format

Name: Trinity Robertson Date(s) of Lesson: 8 of 15

Student Learning Objective(s) and Related Assessment(s):

Learning Target: Students can determine what Eastern and Western cultures typically
value and translate that into their reading by writing a sticky note connecting the themes
of their book to the values they’ve learned and presenting that connection during their
book club discussions. This means students will be able to see connections in the future
which will help contextualize global events and literature alike.

Standard(s):
Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects to answer a question (including
a self-generated question) or solve a problem; narrow or broaden the inquiry when
appropriate; synthesize multiple sources on the subject, demonstrating understanding of
the subject under investigation. (CCSS: W.11-12.7)

Materials/Resources:
Graphic Organizer on White Board

Learning Activities:

Initiation:
- Students will be asked if there is something their family does or values that is
different than what other families do or value. The teacher will explain how that is
part of their individual and family culture and how that varies from different
people, families, communities, and nations.
Lesson Development:
- The teacher will work with students to research Eastern vs Western Cultural
Values and how they present themselves in the literature they read. They will do
this by creating a visual graphic organizer on a white board at the front of class,
where students can write about the research they come up with and the source
they got it from. (45 Minutes)
- Book Club Discussions: Students will bring their sticky note annotations to guide
their book club discussions for today. Students are expected to write a minimum
of two sticky notes during their reading (submitted before class begins via a
picture upload on Google Classroom), and address at least one of their sticky note
annotations during discussion. While book club discussions occur, the teacher will
monitor and confer with students on their progress and depth of understanding of
their book (25 Minutes)
Closure:
- Students will share how their reading of their book club book has been shaped by
understanding how Eastern vs Western cultural values have been shaped over
time and present themselves in literature.
