Current Scenario: (May, 2021)

 THIS is not the first time the people in Gaza have suffered Israeli brutality that has caused
death and devastation. Yet the kind of ferocious and incessant bombardment carried out by
the Zionist administration this time has not been seen for a long while. Children and women
are among the main casualties of Israel’s latest military action.
 Israeli jets have struck homes, refugee camps, medical facilities and even school buildings,
besides razing to the ground a high-rise building housing international media offices in an
apparent attempt to stop coverage of its atrocities.
 Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, that has mostly targeted the civilian population, amounts to
war crimes.
 The latest round of violence was triggered by Israel’s move to forcibly evict Palestinian
families from their homes in occupied East Jerusalem.
 Israel’s latest action is a continuation of what Rashid Khalidi, a Palestinian scholar and
professor at Columbia University, has described as The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine.
 These events also demonstrate the failure of the normalisation deals – known as Abraham
Accords – between four Arab countries and Israel concluded in 2020. These agreements
were heavily advertised as promoting peace in the Middle East and reining in Israeli
expansionist policies in Palestine, but they have proven to have failed in both.
 The only main outcome of the normalisation deal is that the United Arab Emirates is set to
become a major trading partner for Israel after it abandoned the decades-old Arab boycott
of the Zionist state.
 Unconditional external support from its Western allies, particularly from the United States,
has given the Israeli state greater impetus to complete its colonisation of the entire occupied
territory.
 The UAE, like some other Arab countries, has already acquired Israeli surveillance
technology, drones, and airport security equipment.
 THE situation in the occupied territories over the past few days has been incendiary.
 The most recent of these events is the imminent expulsion of Palestinian residents from the
Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah.
 The restrictions on Palestinians’ access to Masjid Al Aqsa during Ramazan, a provocative
march by an extremist Jewish group in the holy city chanting “death to Arabs”, and the
observance of so-called Jerusalem Day, which is supposed to ‘celebrate’ the Israeli
occupation of the Palestinian territory did much to fan the flames. But perhaps the last straw
was when Israeli security forces arrogantly stormed Al Aqsa, injuring hundreds of
worshippers and desecrating the mosque.
 Analysis of the Current Events:
The lava that has just exploded in Palestine was brewing for years. Amongst the main
triggers of Palestinian anger was the recognition of Jerusalem — a disputed city as per
international law — as Israel’s capital by Donald Trump, which effectively gave Tel Aviv’s
leaders the green light to trample on global conventions. Then of course there was the rush
by many of the Palestinians’ Arab ‘brothers’ to establish ties with Israel, despite the fact that
the Jewish state had no intention whatsoever of respecting the two-state solution. And
during all this while, nothing was done to stop rapacious Jewish settlers from devouring
more and more Palestinian land. Now, with the storming of Al Aqsa — a national and
religious symbol for the Palestinians — it is clear to the Arabs that Tel Aviv has been itching
for a fight.
