Collegial Coaching Personal Reflection

According to Myers Briggs assessment, I am ENFJ, meaning that I have a moderate 25%

preference of extroversion over introversion, marginal to no preference of intuition over sensing

at 3%, a moderate preference of feeling over thinking at 31%, and a slight 16% preference of

judging over perceiving.

I see this as I work with others especially when I am leading my teams. As an ENFJ, the

interpersonal skills I have acquired over the years allow me to collaborate effectively with those

around me and I can maintain good work process success with each team member. This also

means I am especially good at building strong teams through assessing and developing

leadership skills. This has naturally led me into teaching roles in education and in the corporate

world.

Interestingly, because I have marginal to no preference of intuition over sensing, I may also

have characteristics of an ESFJ type. Something I need to be careful of is that every person I

encounter has a different personality type, so I will experience different viewpoints, past

experiences, opinions that may cause communication issues and conflicts. I must be diligent in

managing each person in a way that draws on understanding their personality type as well.

An ENFJ’s learning style is driven by thinking about how helpful something is to people.

The more I think something is beneficial, the more I am interested in the topic. My learning is

certainly hindered when I don’t believe the topic is of personal importance, so I have to try

harder to learn the material than if it was of interest to me. Reading books that are written in a

mundane manner or too practically organized causes me to skim instead of really digest the

material.

I learn best when methods such as debates, brainstorming and contests are used, and the

competitiveness of learning the fastest keeps me engaged. Everything I do is systematic, and my

learning is the same. I find that I am unable to work on an assignment out of order, so I follow a

syllabus completely in order. If the development is somewhat out of order, it can throw me off

and slows my progress.

ENFJ’s quickly pick up new material and I can easily take concrete information and grasp it.

I see this in my past work history of always taking processes and dissecting them, reworking

them into a more effective process. I continue to do this today. As I hear someone speak of how

something works, I am constantly thinking it through to see if there is a better way to reach the

end result and I am always asking why it is done the way it currently is being done. I can apply

what I hear and learn to a concrete task, or I can think of a whole new way of doing something. I

certainly enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I create something new, and I see its impact

to those around me. I have to be careful not to become distracted because I tend to want to solve

the issue immediately, bringing change to what is currently being done.

I continue to enjoy learning about my personality and how it has developed over the years. I

love taking the varying assessments and one that I found most beneficial to me, far above any

others, is “Personalysis”. I continue to think about my personality through that assessment’s

results often, and even when I know the results of other types, that one has worked the best for

me year after year.
