Ghoul Friends

Hi, my name is Monica Jensen and I live in a haunted house with 3 ghosts.
Allow me to explain. You see, ever since I was a little girl, I could always see them and I always
thought it was normal but it’s not. But never mind about that, these three ghosts has helped me
out with a lot of things over the years. So let’s take it back three years ago.
It all started when I moved into my new apartment. It’s the cheapest one close to campus for
some reason but hey, don’t threaten me with good time. Once I moved in, I knew why. I heard
these whispers and I turned and saw three ghosts. They didn’t think I was looking at them but I
was. I turned around and ignored them. I was already having a bad day and I really didn’t feel
like talking to anyone. Not even ghosts. I sat down on my new bed and started working on my
calculus homework. I’ll unpack later.
I’m trying to focus on my homework but many things are running through my mind. My
boyfriend sexually pressuring me, my friends always wanting to party all the time, and I really
want alcohol. I hear the whispers again. And these three ghosts won’t shut the hell up. I turned to
them,
“Can y’all shut it?!”
The were all shocked, surprise, and offended.
“Oh my gosh!” The first ghost exclaimed.
“She can see us!” The second ghost yelled.
“Bitch told me to shut up,” the third ghost said.
The other two ghosts looked at her as I rolled my eyes. They disregard the last ghost and look at
me sadly. The first ghost said,
“You seemed stressed out and I doubt it’s the calculus homework.”
“Take a break,” the second ghost invited, “Destress and talk to the dead.”
The third ghost is looking at my homework,
“How can anyone do this shit?”
“Anna!” The other two ghosts yelled.
Ah, fuck it. I could use some talking to. So I told them everything that was going on in my life
and they all looked at each other.
“What?” I asked.
They all said unanimously,
“Time for a story!”
The first ghost starts,
“Hi, my name is Helena Wilfred and I died by murder by my ex-boyfriend. I was just young girl
with high moral standards. I didn’t drink, smoke, and I wanted to wait for sex. My boyfriend was
constantly pressuring me to hook up with him and I didn’t want to. So, we broke up. He didn’t
take that very well. One night he came to this very apartment and chopped off my head. So,
when he said he wanted head, I guess he wanted my head.”
The second ghost goes next,
“My name is Lina Danford. I wanted to keep a good balance between friends and work but my
best friend always wanted me to go to the hottest parties. One night I skipped out on the party of
the city to study for my Biology test and she didn’t take that well. One day, she came to this
apartment and gave me an unlabeled chicken sandwich. Turns out it was a Chick Fil A sandwich,
who cooks their chicken in peanut oil. Guess who has a nut allergy? She took my epi pen and
watched me die. I wouldn’t say she was crazy but boy was she nuts.”
“Y’all have some messed up relationships,” said the third ghost.
Helena glared at her,
“Anna, go!”
The third ghost tells her story,
“My name is Anna Lively and I was murdered by a burglar. That’s it, I just forgot to lock my
doors. But I went out with a bang”
I take in their stories and start asking questions,
“So you want me to give up my morals and have sex with my boyfriend, sacrifice my academics
to hang out with my friends, and lock my doors so I won’t get murdered?”
The ghosts answer in their respective orders,
“No.”
“No!”
“Yes!”
I rolled my eyes and they start explaining,
“Listen,” Helena told me, “I have some regrets in life but not giving up my virginity is not one of
them. You should do that when your ready and if a guy doesn’t understand that, to hell with
him.”
Lina explained,
“Sacrificing academics isn’t worth shit in college and your true friends would understand that.
So I don’t regret that either.”
“Should have locked that damn door,” Anna said, “But I locked my safe and the burglar didn’t
get shit ha!”
Helena tells me,
“The only lesson is if they don’t care about you then they don’t deserve to be in your life.”
Later on, I dumped my boyfriend, got new friends, and always lock my doors. I even got a new
safe.
Thanks to my new ghoul friends.
