meet our seed requirement. The project is
proposed to fill the gap of seed deficit as well
as promotion of local entrepreneur on seed
processing and marketing.
Farm operation is mostly taken up by
uneducated senior citizen as well as immigrant
worker, contended with low productivity as
they practiced only primitive technology. The
project will served facilities for training on
planting technology, hands on training on
agriculture implements and machineries, farm
operation etc. for youth. The whole project will
be executed by the existing farm supervisor in
collaboration with schemes and agencies
under the department of agriculture (R&E) as
well as ICAR and SIRD wherever is feasible.

The department have existing research
farm where the project is proposed. Further,
department is well equipped with competent
researchers and extension workers from KVK,
ATMA & MOVCED.
Availability of quality seed is the critical
determinant in increasing the agriculture
production. Self sufficient in seed is one of
the biggest challenges in today agriculture of
our state. It is crucial to resiliently meet seed
requirement in time even in case of state
emergency.
Under the project quality and certified
seed will be made available to needy farmers
in a right time and a right place through
department or private entrepreneur.
Low productivity of paddy is a serious
concern for Mizoram. According to the
economic survey 2019-20, in
paddy , Mizoram's average yield in 2018 of
1688 kg/ha is far lower than the
country’s average of 2404 kg/ha. Low
productivity bedeviled the spirit of local farmers
and impelled youth to not participate in
agriculture sectors.
The project is proposed to increase the
productivity of our main cereal crops while
preserving our landraces varieties.

The project will emphasis on seed
production, preservation of local landraces
varieties and enhancement on productivity and
capacity building through on farm training,
handling of farm machineries and operation
etc. which will target youth, farmers and
entrepreneur.
As per economic survey 2019-20
11.79% of the total agriculture land holding in
our state is operated by women. So the project
obviously included beneficiaries from the
female gender.
The project concisely is production of
quality seed to fill the gap of seed deficit and
make available to farmers in time while
promoting local landraces varieties.
The project will serve as on farm training
centre for youth and promising farmers to curb
contending low productivity, to increase
farmers’ income, to attract youth in the field of
agriculture production and marketing and to
thwart the practice of tenant farming by the
immigrant.

To operate the project it will take 12 months
from the date of commencement of the project
