Route you will take to achieve your future goals (Bullets are Fine!)
A community/work issue that can be solved with a particular skill set from your career
area (How will I give back?)
Biomedical engineers work with doctors, therapists and researchers to develop systems,
equipment and devices in order to solve clinical problems. A community issue biomedical
engineers can solve is with schools. As I said above biomedical engineers can develop
systems, equipment and even devices, in this case with the coronavirus disease that we are
facing now, creating an air sanitation and setting it up to prevent diseases in school
classrooms will keep kids safe from catching the virus or any disease that might be
contagious.
*This will be where you will showcase what you created that addresses a community/work
issue.
My potential hands-on will be showing how to set up a safe classroom/ lab air sanitation to
prevent disease in classrooms to keep kids safe from catching any disease. I will work on this
with my professor at Grand Valley.
● Goal: To clean air of Viruses & Allergens in learning pods designed in 20 student
labs.
● Benefit: To prevent a safe breathing atmosphere with low cost at approximately
$200 per learning pod. 5 stations x $200 = $1,000.
● Prototype: Using inverted Table Top Guardian Brand room sanitizer with
Ultraviolet Light and HEPA Filter, amounted to plexiglass between two classroom
desks and secured.
● Experiment: Set up 5 prototypes in 5 stations and test Air quality for deciding
efficacy in prototype.
1. What personal interest do you have in this topic? Why have you chosen this topic for your
Senior Project/Showcase? This year I found out that I love working in labs, knowing this
helped me figure out what career I want to pursue. I chose this career because not only
do I like working in a lab but I want to save lives through designing softwares to run
medical equipment or computer simulation to test new drug therapies.
2. What research questions will you seek to answer? What kinds of sources might you look
for?
What tools are needed to create the protective equipment? How long will it take to
create? For these questions I might look for different types of sources that have
instructions of similar topics or I could also reach my professor.
4. What situations, events, or places could you observe or experience to gain insight into
your topic? At Grand Valley State University my Biomedical Research and Technology
has introduced a project for me to work these few weeks left to gain more understanding
on how it works, my plan is to use this as a demonstration in my capstone presentation.
5. What challenges might you encounter with your research or project? What assistance or
tools will you need to overcome them? The new project that I will begin to do at Grand
Valley might be changing for me because I don’t know how this will work. I will need my
professor to help me guide through the process of this project.
6. What other questions or concerns do you have about your Senior Capstone Project at
this time?
