5. Narrowed Career Focus: (ex. Public Relations)

Funeral Director

A community/work issue that can be solved with a particular skill set from your career
area (How will I give back?) (ex. Create a campaign to give back to a local cause)

Death is a very scary and difficult process. Many people are never ready to let go of their
loved ones. A lot of the times people don’t get the closer they want or need.

How can Mortuary Science help people deal with death?

My potential hands-on will be: MUST BE VERY DETAILED! (ex. Showcase the entire
campaign.)

*This will be where you will showcase what you created that addresses a community/work
issue.
My hands-on project I will replicate a model of a face. I will explain how the process works and
the different kinds of makeup used. After I explain the process I will take the judges through
the process of cleaning up the face and applying the make up.

1. What personal interest do you have in this topic? Why have you chosen this topic for your
Senior Project/Showcase?
I haven’t had an experience with death as personally as the people around me
have. I would like to help make the grieving process a little smoother.

2. What research questions will you seek to answer? What kinds of sources might you look
for?

How hard is this job to stomach? Can you balance a work/social life? I can look up
different articles and interviews with morticians and see if they’ve answered any of these
questions.
3. Who is a person/company (specifically, or in general) with experience or expertise in this
field you might interview? What understanding do you hope to gain from this
person/company?

I would like to interview a mortician. I hope that they will be able to explain exactly
how the entire preparation process works, from start to finish.

4. What situations, events, or places could you observe or experience to gain insight into
your topic?

I could watch documentaries, videos, read papers all on the subject of embalming
and the entire process.

5. What challenges might you encounter with your research or project? What assistance or
tools will you need to overcome them?

I might have a hard time setting up my hands-on project. I also will need to do
extensive research on how Morticians do the make-up process.

6. What other questions or concerns do you have about your Senior Capstone Project at
this time?
I don’t have any currently.
