Harriet Miller (July 4, 1919 – January 6, 2010) was an American chemist in Pennsylvania
and politician in California. Miller was a mayor of Santa Barbara, California.

== Early life ==
On July 4, 1919, Miller was born in Council, Idaho. Miller's father was a teacher and high
school principal and her mother was a school teacher.

== Education ==
Miller earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Whitman College in Walla Walla,
Washington. Miller earned a master's degree in Chemistry from the University of
Pennsylvania.

== Career ==
In 1944, Miller became a chemist at Atlantic Richfield (now ARCO) in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania until 1950.Miller was elected Superintendent of the Montana Office of Public
Instruction.
In 1987, Miller was appointed as a member of the city council in Santa Barbara, California.In
1995, Miller became the mayor of Santa Barbara, until 2001.

== Personal life ==
In 1981, Miller moved to Santa Barbara, California. On January 6, 2010, Miller died at her
home in Santa Barbara, California.

at the University of Tü bingen in Germany.

== Life and career ==


Hanack was born in Luckenwalde on 22 October 1931. From 1949 to 1954 he studied
chemistry, philosophy and economics at the universities of Freiburg, Bonn and Tü bingen,
and obtained his Diplomchemiker degree in 1954. In 1957, he completed his thesis under
the supervision of Walter Hü ckel on "Solvolyse der Toluolsulfonate der stereoisomeren cis-
alpha-Hydrindanole und Beiträ ge zur Messmethodik" (Solvolysis of toluenesulfonates of
stereoisomeric cis-alpha-hydrindanoles and contributions to the methodology of kinetic
measurements).
After being an assistant to Hü ckel from 1957 to 1958, Hanack conducted his own research
on topics such as organofluorine chemistry, organic chemistry and stereochemistry. After
his habilitation in 1961, he was granted the title Privatdozent when he was only 31 years
old, at that time one of the youngest Privatdozenten in Germany. He was promoted to
Professor extraordinarius at the University of Tü bingen in 1968 and was offered the chair
as professor of organic chemistry and head of the department at the Saarland University in
1970. In April 1975 he returned to the University of Tü bingen as professor of organic
chemistry, succeeding Eugen Mü ller. He was there also dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and
Pharmacy from 1981 to 1983, and head of the Department of Chemistry from 1995 to 2001.
From 2001 to 2019 he was Professor emeritus and continued his research work.

services and programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It serves
over 5,100 people from all age groups. The goal of the organization is to create a society in
which people with disabilities have equal rights and can determine their own future and
way of life. With the help of its programs, children and adults with disabilities gain the tools
needed to lead more independent lives within the community.

== History ==
Israel Elwyn was established in 1984 (as Jerusalem Elwyn; renamed to Israel Elwyn in
1998) ) as an offshoot of the American nonprofit Elwyn Inc., which was founded in 1852
and named for Alfred L. Elwyn. It was the first Elwyn affiliate outside the United States. The
main offices of Israel Elwyn are located in Jerusalem.
In 1987 Jerusalem Elwyn inaugurated its first Supported Employment program for persons
with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and two years later, added a program for
individuals referred by the Rehabilitation Department of Bituah Leumi. In 1988 Kfar
HaShvedi (the "Swedish Village"), a Malben-founded institution for children with
disabilities, was transferred from the government to Jerusalem Elwyn.In 1992, Community
Living apartments were opened in Jerusalem and then other parts of Israel. By securing
long-term leases, Elwyn provides people with disabilities with the possibility of living as
part of the general community.
