1: What are ‘norms’?


Norms are a fundamental concept in the social sciences. They are most commonly
defined as rules or expectations that are socially enforced. Norms may be
prescriptive encouraging positive behavior.

2: Discuss the manager’s role in promoting healthy norms.


Managers can help to influence and promote positive approaches to health and
safety by leading by example, communicating effectively and engaging with staff,
encouraging a learning culture, promoting a “just, no-blame culture”, and tracking

Goal setting is a process of determining what the participant's goals are, working towards them
and assessing whether their goals are met. A prevalent process for setting goals uses the
SMART acronym, Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely.

11: What are KPIs? Explain.

KPI stands for key performance indicator, a quantifiable measure of


performance over time for a specific objective. KPIs provide targets for teams
to shoot for, milestones to gauge progress, and insights that help people
across the organization make better decisions. From finance and HR to
marketing and sales, key performance indicators help every area of the
business move forward at the strategic level.

12: What is groupthink and how can a manager prevent group think?

Groupthink is a phenomenon that occurs when the desire for group consensus


overrides people's common sense desire to present alternatives, critique a

Organizations use KPIs to help individuals at all levels focus their work towards
achieving a common goal. KPIs also help businesses understand whether they're
spending utilizing their time, and budget and talent on the right strategies, tasks
and tools in order to achieve its goals.

15: Apply Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to the work environment by providing two
examples of how the organisation can meet needs at each level of the hierarchy.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a motivational theory in


psychology. This hierarchy, also referred to as Maslow’s theory
of motivation includes five levels of human needs. Within each
level are specific needs that allow for an individual to feel
fulfilled. The hierarchy is often depicted as a pyramid to
represent the need to fulfill the lower levels before an
individual can move up to the next level. Without fulfillment on
the level below, a person can’t progress because they will lack
the motivation to do so.
