CAREER GOALS:

1. What are you planning on doing as a life-long career?

I would like to be an NFL athletic trainer and possibly a fitness coach as a lifelong career. An
athletic trainer usually attends sporting events and provides on-site care. They also make
customized treatment plans and recommendations for the ideal steps of an athlete’s care steps. A
fitness coach merges systematic coaching and personal training to empower and encourage their
clients to live a fit and healthy lifestyle, as well as gain confidence.
2. What career do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I could see myself in a paid internship or as an athletic trainer for a college. I feel
that I will be able to find an internship or a job in a physical therapy business or even in one of
the NFL athletic training internships. I want to work on getting ahead in college so I have one
foot in the door when I get out of college. Having experience already in that career field would
be a great way for me to have a head start in my career.
3. What interests do you have to support your goal?
One main interest that I have is sports. I do not know much about any other sports than
cheerleading, football, and basketball but I enjoy watching all sports. I also have an interest in
being fit and eating and living a healthy lifestyle. I feel like these both support my goal to
becoming an athletic trainer because they work with athletes and try to help these athletes stay
healthy or get healthy. I also enjoy working on self confidence and love and this interest can help
with the goal of helping another feel happy, healthy, and confident in themselves.
4. What skills do you already have that might support your goal? Example: Computer skills,
i.e. MSWord.
The first skill the comes to mind is great communication skills. I feel that I am a very social able
person and that I can create great and trusting bonds with my clients. Another skill that I saw
listed was an interest in sports, and as I said before I love sports and I am willing to learn all
about them, and even participate in them. One thing that many people may struggle with, but I do
not is having empathy and compassion. I can understand how devastating and nerve wracking it
can be to have an injury and not be able to play your sport for a little, or ever again. I can
understand where injured athletes mental state is, and with a little education and experience I feel
that I could help with their physical and mental health during those trying times.
5. What knowledge do you already have to support your goals? Example: understand the
educational requirements to be an accountant.
I understand that athletic trainers do not work with just themselves, but with nurses, coaches,
physicians, and many other people to help with the client’s recovery. I understand that there
has to be great communication as well as cooperation to do what is best for the client. I also
know that some of the situation athletic trainers are put in can be very high stress and could
make or break an athlete. So, I know that athletic trainers have to take their jobs very
seriously because there is another person’s passion, career, life, or love in their hands.
6. What Career Pathway are you currently pursuing?
The career pathway I am currently perusing is marketing. I do not think there are any pathways I
could have taken to lead me to sports medicine. The only way I could have thought of getting
there is by interning at a physical therapy place, but the pandemic happened, and I was unable to
find an internship. Marketing could relate to athletic training though if I were to help with
campaigning and such, even to help with the marketing of who needs a fitness coach, how much
to charge, the demographics, and other things like that.

POST-SECONDARY/GRADUATION PLANS:

1. What are your plans after graduating from high school?

After graduating from high school, I plan on going to a four-year college and getting my
Doctorates degree. I would like to be on of the best in my field and move on to help others be
healthy and happy with life. I also plan in part taking in a few internships to help gain experience
and to verify that this is the career I truly want to peruse.
2. What degree or educational program do you wish to pursue?
I would like to get mt Doctorates degree. This would help with my professional credibility and
bring me more clients to help. I think it would also help with the improving the quality of my
resume making it easier for me to, hopefully, get a spot as an athletic trainer in the NFL.
3. What is the highest level of education you believe you will need to fulfill your career
goals?

High School
Military Training
On-the-job Training
2-Year Technical College
2-Year State College
4-Year College or University
Master’s Degree
Doctorate
Other (please specify)
To be an athletic trainer one would need at least their bachelor’s degree. Most athletic trainers
though, have their master’s degree. I feel that I would need my masters to fulfil my goals of
being an athletic trainer in the NFL or to be a credible fitness trainer. I have seen that many
employers would prefer their athletic trainers to have their masters.

4. Where are you planning to continue your education?

I am planning on continuing my education at a four-year college, probably UGA. UGA has a
sports medicine program and they are also close to home. The football team is great and would
provide me with great athletic trainers to study. I also love that I can get two scholarships for any
college in GA.
5. Have you met the requirements to begin your chosen degree or educational program?
For UGA I have met the requirements of having a 4.0 GPA, at least 2 foreign language classes. I
have not reached the requirement of having 7-12 AP courses and my SAT score is around a 1200
which is 150 points away from their average and my ACT is a 22 which is 9 points away from
their average.
