Chemicals used for soil stabilization.

Fill materials should be non-problematic soil. G7 and G15 are also being used as subgrade improving
materials.

Among the most common chemicals that are used for soil stabilization include sodium chloride, calcium
chloride and sodium silicate. Other chemicals that are added into the soil include polymers, chrome
lignin, alkyl chlorosilanes, siliconites, amines and quaternary ammonium salts.

G7 material

G7 is a crushed product materials used as a sub-base for building foundation, roads and parking areas.it
is a natural material such as soil, sand or gravel.

G7 Sub-Base Material is used as filling and a base coarse under roads and paving. This material may
contain approved natural fines not obtained from parent rock. The nominal maximum size for
uncrushed material is 2/3 of the compacted layer and for crushed material 74mm.

When it comes to Atterberg limits (-0.045mm fraction), the G7 PI shall not exceed 12 or value equal to 3
times the GM plus 10, which is the higher value. In the case of calcrete the PI shall not exceed 17
provided that the LS does not exceed 7% and (% passing 0.425mm sieve) LS less or equal to 320

Then in terms of durability, the Murdrock shall have a wet 10% FACT value of not less than 60kN, and a
wet/dry Venter test class 0f I, II, or III.

While its strength in terms of CBR at 93% of modified AASHTO density shall be at least 15%.

(Colto specifications 2009).

G15 materials

G15 is also being used as subgrade improving materials. It has a minimum 4-day soaked CBR of 7% and
CBR for swell of maximum of 1.5% and PI maximum 25%.

For rural;

Pavement composition Double Surface dressing, 225 mm CA Base (class CRR), 275mm Mechanically
modified sub base (G45), 150 mm Subgrade (G15) and 150mm Subgrade (G7).

For urban;

150 mm Subgrade (G15) and 150mm Subgrade (G7)

For G7

For G7 the approved standard for pavement design is 150mm optional Layer of G7 Material

When constructing roads, the lower subgrade is made of G7 fill materials of 250-350 mm and the
improved subgrade of G15 125-350mm. The subbase will be chemically stabilized cement of 150-215
mm, 125-150 mm of crushed stone base course and a wearing course of Asphalt Concrete of 55-100mm.
