1. Look at the figure below, what are the key terms related to assessment?
The key terms related to assessment are electronic portfolio, summative, formative,
technology, offline, online, digital, future, trends, and ICT.
2. How do students know what is expected and are they able to articulate expectations, share
their work and reflect on other’s work?
Students will know what is expected, able to articulate expectations, share their work, and
reflect on other’s work through learning outcomes and assessment of learning. These two
guides, measures and manipulates learning inside the classroom. It somehow helps the teacher
to facilitate well the progress of his/ her teaching.
The role of ICT in assessment of learning is to be a tool for teachers to easily measure
progress, score the tests, stored results, and analyze the students’ learning outcomes. This can
be also integrated to complete tasks or assignments necessary for the additional performance
inside the class. In addition, it provides valuable feedback with digital platforms that supports
educational progress.

1. Write your reflection about formative and summative assessment, and then share it in the
class.
Educators use various types of assessments to determine what and how much information
students have learned. Formative assessments are beneficial because it evaluates how someone
is learning the material throughout the instructional period. Some examples of this are quizzes,
group activities, games, projects, and presentations. So, as the course ends, the teacher could
have an idea of how class are learning with the subject. Does he/she need to adjust the current
strategies for the next meeting or he/she will just stick to what is effective and productive.
Meanwhile, summative assessments are beneficial to the education process because it shows
how much an individual learned throughout a long series of lesson. Teachers can look at from
this to know the strengths and weaknesses of students including the effectivity of their applied
curriculum as a whole. Common examples of summative assessments include formal exams,
reports, papers, tests, and end-of-class projects. That’s why if we teach introductory courses,
these are perfect to set the class up. When they are prepared and well- equipped, it would be
easy for them to succeed in the future. Therefore, as a whole, both formative and summative
assessments are important in the evaluation of student’s knowledge and growth. Yes, they
played different role, but act as one in the teaching- learning process.
Task:
Conduct an interview with your teachers regarding their practice on assessment. Make an
unstructured interview guide.

A. Answer the following questions.
The role of technology in assessing student learning is to be a tool for teachers to easily
assess or find out the knowledge and understanding with regards to the given lesson or topic.
So through this, they can now determine the strengths and weaknesses of the class that needs
intervention or reinforcement. What’s also interesting here, is it makes the process or
evaluation more light, quick, and accurate. In addition, technology can be used to track
performance and facilitate communication between the teachers and students about the growth
and development.

With your group answer the following questions and share them with the class.
1. Enumerate and discuss the different assessment methods and tools utilized by your teachers
in elementary and high school.
When it comes to the assessment methods, my teachers in elementary and high school
always utilized diagnostic assessment, formative assessment, and summative assessment in
their instruction. These are the common ways they did to assess knowledge and understanding
of their learners. On the other hand, they used various tools like written reports, concept maps,
portfolios, oral presentations, open- book exams, and poster presentations to measure
academic abilities, skills, and fluency in a given subject. As a whole, they administer this
assessment method and tool to enhance as well as evaluate student’s learning progress.

1. What is the role of ICT in assessing student learning? Cite some specific examples.
The role of ICT in assessing student learning is to enable both teachers and students to
provide their valuable feedback on each learner’s progress. It also supports teaching discussion
with digital platforms in line with the rapid development of education.
As a future teacher, I will assess my future students through direct or indirect method.
Examples of direct methods that I will utilized are examinations, written assignments, oral
presentations and performances, capstone projects, theses and dissertations, internship
supervisor’s rating of student skills, portfolios, and scores between entry and exit tests. Indirect
methods on the other hand, provides a useful supplement and check on the findings from direct
measures. Some example of this are interviews, surveys, and reflective essays which is good in
measuring one’s knowledge and understanding.
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using ICT in assessment? How about
conventional assessment methods?
The advantages of using ICT in assessment are it improves student engagement and
promotes deeper learning, improves authenticity and alignment with learning outcomes, and it
easily access or spread the assessments for staff and students. On the hand, the disadvantages
include accessibility issues, health issues, distractions, and sense of isolation. Meanwhile, the
advantages of ICT in conventional assessment methods are innovative ways to interact and
communicate with students, higher engagement rates, faster learning, and improvement of
teaching. But when it comes to the negative side, it has disadvantages like it takes a lot of
preparation time, unsafe privacy online, and a high chance of having work or answer with
plagiarism.
1. What are the goals and what is the purpose for using the tool? It’s always a good
idea to have an end goal in mind so you can zero- in on what tool would be the best.
2. What should be measured in tool? All of the competencies and skills measured in the
tools should be job- relevant and be needed at any entry. A job analysis is a method that can
be conducted to determine what skills are important for the target job position.
3. How should you measure the important skills identified? There are several methods
that can be utilized when assessing skills and abilities. The type of toll used can be influenced
by volume of candidates, administrative concerns, time requirements for candidates, and
suitability of proctored vs. unproctored tests.
4. What is the validity of tool or how can this evidence be generated? Before using any
tool, it is critical to know how well the tool works. Some assessment tools have been utilized
previously, and therefore you may be able to make inferences based on this information.
However, for other tools, it may be necessary to gather this evidence in your organization.
Additional Task:
Research some online assessment tools and report them to the class. (Choose only one.)
Padlet
Padlet- is a digital tool that can help teachers and students in class and beyond by offering a
single place for a notice board. This digital notice board is able to feature images, links, videos,
and documents, all collated on a “wall” that can be made public or private. This means that
both teachers and students can post on it.
Add posts with one click, copy- paste, or drag and drop.
Changes or autosaved.
Simple linking sharing allows quick collaboration.
Upload files from your computer, take a picture or video from your phone, or link from
the web.
Post images, documents, videos, music, and files from Photoshop, illustrator, Autocad,
and more.
Attached links and files will appear with a gorgeous contextual preview to give viewers a
hint of what you’re showing them.
Beautiful attachment previews (rather than boring links) show off the content you want
to share.
From each option, choose who can view, write on, or moderate your padlets.
Process:
Step 1. Go to padlet.com and create an account. Use either your Iowa State University email
and/ or another account that is associated with your name.
Step 3. Start working on your padlet wall by clicking Modify This Wall. Place the team’s project
Title and a small Description about the project into appropriate places.
Step 4. Change the wallpaper and layout on the Modify This Wall Page. Add a preset or
customized w allpaper and change the layout to stream, grid, or freefrom.
Observation assessment method. This method is usually administered or use inside the
classroom or in any tasks and researches. It is very accurate since that it involves personal
observation about the learning difficulties and weaknesses of the students. After this, a record
of examiner’s or teacher’s observation will be kept for later interpretation.
Performance. This is usually used when teachers need to evaluate students’ knowledge and
creativity through a presentation which is guided by a given rubric. Common examples of this
are debate, puppet show, drama, oration, declamation, and many more.
These three different assessment methods are essential in assessing students’ knowledge and
skills in learning a course lesson or topic. As a student, we already experienced this set- up
inside the school. Well, when there is an education, there’s also a presence of it. These play a
major role since that it helps teachers to determine the weakness, strengths, difficulties, various
skills, and progress of an individual. Without it, maybe there might be a problem and confusion
between and among the class. The students as well as their teachers could not have a proper
benchmark of learning. Why? It is because there is no thing called identification and
intervention. With this, reinforcement of teaching cannot be also raised or applied. Therefore,
as a whole, I can say that the different assessment methods are the key for an effective and
productive development of learning.
Task:
Paper- pencil test is the most common and systematic way of gathering information about the
learner’s behavior and performance. Here, the class reads the material and respond through
writing.
2. Why is it important to include higher- level thinking questions in their instruction and in their
assessments?
Paper- pencil test is a common assessment utilized inside the classroom. As a student, this is
the procedure we’ve faced and experienced every day. Well, it stimulates our minds with the
various tests that does not only requires us to recall what we’ve read, but at the same time, lets
to dig deeper and create something away from what is obvious or literal. By this, it promotes
critical- thinking skills and other abilities that is useful in our learning progress. Meanwhile, it
challenges every student to answer the questions based on the course material and sometimes
just on their understanding and perception. So, I can say that paper- pencil test is important in
the development and assessment aspect of education. Without it, there would be a lame in the
teaching- learning process for both teachers and the students.

1. Why is it important to include higher- level thinking questions in their instruction and in
their assessments?
Teachers should keep in mind the level of their learners when writing test items. Why? It is
because students cannot answer questions if their knowledge and understanding are not
inclined or suited with it. In addition, they should make sure that the tasks promote higher
order thinking skills to develop a much creative and productive mind. With this, teaching-
learning process will be effective enough in preparing students for their future success.

The advantages of creating an ePortfolio are it gives students the opportunity to be more
intentional and deliberate in integrating their personal, academic, and professional goals with
learning, stimulate deeper understanding and transfer of skills and knowledge, promotes
reflective and critical thinking skills and lastly gives everyone a vehicle to articulate how their
educational experience prepares them for future academic and career goals.
The technology tools we can use to construct an ePortfolio are evernote, seesaw, google
slides, google sites, three ring, wordpress, easy portfolios, wikispaces for education and weebly.
The evidence there that ePortfolios are beneficial to student learning is the fact that it ties
experiences, showcase skills, tracks growth, and creates an effective work for everyone. Like for
example, a onefile site ePortfolio which has built in gap analysis and dashboards that determine
how much is the progress of the whole class. With this, every student will be knowledgeable of
their development as well as with the criteria which can even improve the learning process.
