Observation of Teaching – Learning in Actual School Environment

Worksheet 6
Assessment of Student Learning

Learning Target/s:
1. Identify the types of assessment used in class
2. Get a sample of assessment tool used by the CT
3. Determine the problems encountered by teachers in conducting assessments
during COVID – 19
4. Determine the ways teachers address/solve problems in conducting
assessments during COVID - 19

A. Observe the class and answer the following questions.

1. What are the types of assessment used by your CT? Give an example.

Ms. Salvacion utilized the three assessments, namely: diagnostic, formative,

and summative assessments. Diagnostic assessment includes day-to-day
instructions. This is where teachers will determine if any students may have
learning difficulties. In formative assessment, teachers need to constantly
make sure that students are learning what they need to know in order to move
on to the next tasks. Formative assessment takes time and requires constant
observations and conferencing with students. Teachers should be giving
students descriptive feedback in order for them to know what they need to
work on and then improve on their skills. Lastly, summative assessments are
necessary to determine what degree of material students have learned. It gives
students a chance to demonstrate their knowledge on a particular unit. In
addition, this type of assessment typically up a large portion of the student’s
mark in the class. She always gives various assessments to determine the
learning progress of her students, knowing the fact that they too have different
learning styles. She finds it hard because there should be a lot of factors to
consider in choosing the appropriate assessment.

2. How often assessments are given/administered in the class?

Ms. Daphne always conducted pre-tests for the students. She conducted a
pre-test for every new topic of the lesson. While, for the formative assessment,
I believe she always has it in class, as it was already stated that there are
specific activities they must complete/answer in each learning module. In fact,
she always reminds her students about the activities every after class. And she
even caters to the student's questions when they have concerns or
clarifications regarding the activities. Then, the summative assessments are
always given to the students once a month.

Second, you have to

consider the students.
Most especially that we
can’t deny the fact that
many are suffering from

struggling because of
the pandemic. Things
should be weighed, like
assessments should not
be hard but not too easy

C. Personal Insight and Reflection

As a future educator, I can see the importance of administering an

assessment. It plays an essential part in the learning and motivation
processes. Assessment is a critical step in the learning process. It determines
whether or not the course’s learning objectives have been met. A learning
objective is what students should know or be able to do by the time a lesson is
completed. Assessment affects many facets of education, including student
grades, placement, and advancement as well as curriculum, instructional
needs, and school funding. As a student, it is important to have the
assessment because it helps me to evaluate my own performance. I can say
that it is the foundation of self-motivation since it allows students to put out
extra effort in order to enhance their academic performance inorder for them to
see and measure their progress with the help of assessment.
