Introduction
According to Cambridge Dictionary, 2021) assessment
(

refers to “ a process in which it is considered gathered

information of a person or situation and based on that a
decision or a judgement is made”. As it is known there
are many ways to evaluate or test our students, choosing
a option will depend on the objective, topic, students´s
need, tools, etc. The following presentation will be about
the different types of comprehensive assessment
models, their definition and an example of each one
using authentic materials.
Context and background
A central element of teaching practice is the teacher's evaluation, to assess the progress of his students and to
achieve the expected learning. For this, it is necessary to consider various elements like: what and how to
evaluate, when to evaluate and the three varieties of assessments must be considered: diagnostic, formative
and summative.

According to BBC (Diagnostic test, 2019) diagnostic assessment “is a test that helps the teacher and learners
identify problems that they have with the language”. It focuses on the type and level of knowledge that our
students have before starting the course or that subject, it will let us know what they have learned, what they
to practice and as teachers we will know where should we start.

Formative assessment “refers to a wide variety of methods that teachers use to conduct in-process
evaluations of student comprehension, learning needs, and academic progress during a lesson, unit, or
course”(Formative assessment Definition, 2013) It focuses on the student and on overcoming the progress of
difficulties that take place during the teaching-learning process, favoring learning by making the student aware
of their achievements and their mental gaps.

According to the Educational reform summative assessment “are given at the conclusion of a specific
instructional period, and therefore they are generally evaluative, rather than diagnostic” (Summative
Assessment Definition, 2013). Summative evaluation involves awarding a final grade that is the one that
appears in the academic record.

Diagnostic assessment
Diagnostic assessments are pretests used for
measuring how much information students
have about a topic (What is a Diagnostic
Assessment? Here’s everything you need to
know., 2018)

The reason for choosing the diagnostic test is

that, as a teacher, I will know how much the
students really know about the topic. And It
will also help me with the lesson planning,
learning objectives and identify areas that may
need more or less time. ‌

Class profile The group is integrated by 19 children, ten boys and nine girls, between the ages of 8 and
9. It is a third grade class, from what it is considered a primary bilingual school.

Timetable Fit The previous class was about practicing the past using sentences with was/were.
For the next class students will practice Past continuous, were they need to manage the
proper use of was and were

Main Aim(s) To identify the past simple was/were.

Subsidiary Aims To identify questions and answer with was/were.

Stage Aims To identify the past in affirmative using was/were.

To identify the past in negative using was/were.
To identify questions and answer using was/ere.
Personal Aims To diagnose students previous knowledge about the use of the past was/were.
Assumptions Students already have knowledge on the topic, because of previous classes.
Anticipated problems Some students might have some doubts about the use.
Some students might not remember the topic.
Possible solutions Do a warm up activity as feedback to make students feel comfortable.
Teaching aids, material, Laptop, cellphone, internet, powerpoint presentation link to online activity for diagnostic
equipment test.

Procedures Warm up:Write today’s date and yesterday’s date on a PPT presentation. On today’s date write Today is ………
On yesterday’s date write yesterday was……… Underline was. Then write another sentence under today’s date in
plural, e.g. Today there are 19 children in the class. Under yesterday’s date write e.g., Yesterday there were 18
children. Underline were.
Ask students why we use was/were in the two sentences about yesterday.
Apply diagnostic exam: students will do the exam activity. Nearpod application,

Results and feedback: since the results are back immediately the teacher will start giving the results to each
student and the feedback of the exam.
Closing: the teacher will explain the simple past to students and do a powerpoint activity with students to review
learning.

Timing Warm up: 10 -15 minutes

Development: 10-15 minutes
Results: 5-10 minutes
Closing:10-15 minutes
Interaction Warm up: students will work in groups to respond to the powerpoint presentation with a quick activity.
patterns Development: students will work on the diagnostic test activity individually.
Results: teacher will give feedback of the diagnostic activity in groups
Closing: game activity of puzzle individually.

Formative assessment
I decided to use formative assessment with my
students because I think that it is the suitable
assessment for kindergarten, as every day I need
to monitor my students and be aware of our weak
or strong points as class. Also it is a good
assessment to provide my students constant
feedback and at that age they do not have
summative assessments, every grade is
assigned through observations and with a low
score.

Summative
assessment

I decided to use the summative

evaluation, because it is a type of
formal evaluation, which allows partial
evaluations to be scheduled at certain
times of the course and is likewise one
of the requirements required in the
COBACH study program and by the
direction of campus 21 Alpoyeca, Gro.
In the distance education process, this
approach gives as result in the final (of
each partial) evaluation of the student's
learning.

Conclusion
In conclusion, we have seen different types of assessment that can lead us to
understand and work in many different ways with students. But the most important
thing is to know that they should be used to reach individuals and support them in
their learning process.
Kellough (1999) mentions that the the welfare and future of people depend on the
outcomes of assessment. And for learning to be successful, learners must have
answers to basic questions.

At the end no matter what assessment you use, if the final result is to assist and
improve student’s learning and teacher’s effectiveness.
Personal opinion
Marlene
In my opinion using a
Diagnostic Assessment is a
good way to see teachers and
students weaknesses in order
to improve. It should always
be applied in every classroom.

Sara
I think that specially formative
Bianey
I believe that for the evaluation to be
effective and serve its purpose, it is
assessment, has a good impact in necessary to establish clear evaluation
our students learning- process criteria and that the students know them
and it is a continuous assessment from the beginning of the course, so
that helps us to improve (as that they know what is expected of
teacher and as student). them.
