1. Define work study and state the objectives of work


study.

Also mention the advantages of work study.


Work study is a generic term for those techniques, particularly
method study and work measurement, which are used in all its
context and which lead systematically to the investigation of all
the factors, which effect the efficiency and economy of the
situation being reviewed in order to effect improvement. Work
study is defined as that body of knowledge concerned with the
analysis of the work methods.
Objectives of work study:
The main objectives of work study is to improve productivity of
men, machines and materials.

 Work study brings higher productivity.


 Work study improves existing method of work for which
cost becomes lower.
 It eliminates wasteful elements.
 It sets standard of performance.
 It helps to use plant and human more effectively.

 Better quality of the product.


 To pay reasonable salary.
 To determine the demands of machinery.

Advantages of work study:

 It helps to achieve the smooth production flow with


minimum interruptions.
 It helps to reduce the cost of the product by eliminating
waste and unnecessary operations.
 Better worker management relations.
 Meets the delivery commitment.
 Reduction in rejections and scrap and higher utilization of
resources of the organization.
 Helps to achieve better working conditions.
 Better workplace layout.
 Improves upon the existing process or methods and help in
standardization and simplification.
 Helps to establish the standard time for an operations or
job which has got application man power planning,
production planning.
 Quality products to consumers.
2.Define quality. State the concept of quality.
Write the objectives of quality control.
Quality management is about making organization perform for
their stakeholders from improving products, services, systems
and processes to making sure that the whole organizations is fit
and effective. Quality is the totally of features and
characteristics of a product or services that bear on its ability to
satisfy given needs. Quality refers to how good something is
compared to other similar things.
Concept of quality:
The concepts of quality procedures were developed, mainly in
the united states and japan. A number of procedures and
principles were developed:

 A need to analyse the function of the finished product and


of the constituent parts.
 Careful design of the components to do what they were
intended to do in other words, establishing functional
criteria.
 Clear standards for the performance of the finished product.

The concept of quality management is also applied to the


provisions of services as well as the production of goods. Since
these are not tangible in the same way as goods, the idea of
customer satisfaction has been introduced quality.
Quality control involves setting standards about how much
variations is acceptable. The aim is to ensure that a product is
manufactured, or a service is provided, to meet the
specifications which ensure customer needs are met. The
important objectives of the quality control as follows:

 To promote and ensure the image of Indian goods exported


to other countries.
 To ensure goods of assured quality alone are sent to the
export market.
 To sustain foreign markets where Indian goods are well
received and develop new markets with competitive edge.
 To instill confidence in the minds of overseas buyers with
the assurance provided by the third party guarantee.
 To adhere strictly to technological requirements of the
product accepted by foreign buyers.
 To ensure sound and safe performance of the products
without causing health hazards.
 To observe conformity of rules and regulations of the
importing countries.
 To maintain proper packaging for the safety of the product
during transit.
 To eliminate the causes of complaints from the foreign
buyers and to improve the overall quality of the Indian
products.
 To maximize production by achieving economics of scale.
