Back from the just concluded NAPE 2019 International Conference and Exhibition

(NAICE), it was a good outing with worthy highs and maybe a few usual lows (the food
again….lol). Overall, the booths and exhibitors were nice as usual, and the short
courses offered were of good variety with something for everyone. It was also good to
see that NAPE can still attract sponsors regardless of the ‘‘Buharinomic times’’. The
Brand marketing team of NAPE should be commended. Nice to see ND Western being
part of this support team.
For me, the key take away experience, was seeing what young professionals can
despite the many hurdles to jump was a welcome breath of fresh air and about time
too. While the wisdom of irreplaceable years of experience of the Old guard can’t be
snuffed at, it is high time Mentors begin to relinquish the reigns of control unto their
mentees. They are hopefully, worth drivers of this lofty association taking it to greater
heights that ripples positively throughout the Nigerian Oil and gas industry in general.
This leads me to especially appreciate one company that stands out above the rest
when it comes to giving young minds that chance we are talking about, Degeconek
Nigeria Limited (DNL). Mr Abiodun Adesanya FNAPE, has really made his mark in
setting DNL up as a platform for launching the careers of industry heavyweights. I
practically lost count of Ex-DNL staff who stopped by at their booth to catch up on
where has become like a family home for most of us. Mind you the number is still
growing. To top the DNL tribute up, I would like to specially commend two DNL
affiliates Lawumi an ex staff and Deborah as they were recipients of NAPE awards for
best presentation and best young professional respectively. You can now see why I say
BIG things are always coming out of DNL.
I would like to wrap things up by saying, certain areas require improvement. We could
better the quality of the food at the conference, we understand it is highly subsidized
but there are standards. In addition to the food, the bags being given out as part of
the conference registration materials seem to be consistently regressing in quality,
again one understands budgets and financial constraints but then I reiterate….again
that there are standards and we should be seen as a progressive association where
bars are raised not clangers dropped. Now having said that, it was extremely nice
seeing everyone, networking, listening to quality presentations and learning
something new. Congratulations to everyone who put this together including the
newly elected executives. I look forward to seeing a much Bigger & Better NAICE in
2020, till then, Let our ideas keep finding even more Oil …and gas. ciao
OL

Sincerely Yours
