Whats My Line?
I remember watching an old TV show as a child that asked the question, Whats My Line? Contestants and a panel vied to see who could best guess someones vocation. That also reminds me of an old country song: Aint never been nobodys idol, but at least I got a title, and I take a lot of pride in what I am. Of course, it seems like everybody has to have a title! One town union tried to refer to maids as household technicians. Others have called homemakers domestic engineers. When my children fell or skinned their knees, they didnt need a domestic engineer but their Mommy, who was making and molding lives according to Gods design. Even some of us preachers can tend toward pride. I heard of one man who seemed to have helium in his ego, who preferred that he be called, the Right Reverend Doctor. In a great form of true humility, Benjamin Franklin, who was an inventor, statesman, ambassador and signer of the Declaration of Independence, put on his tombstone simply, Ben Franklin, printer. If you know who you are, you dont have to convince the rest of the world. If you dont know who you are, its impossible to convince anyone. Believers essential identity is in Christ, freeing us to stop trying to impress others. The Bible says that we are either natural without Christ or spiritual, as those who appraise all things because we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:14-16). Living beneath their privilege, some Christians are fleshly and carnal as infants in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:1). In our current Wednesday study, the r12 Journey True Spirituality According to Jesus, we are learning what it means to think, act, and talk like Jesus. The study of Romans 12 shows how this is lived out in our upside down world. Through the teaching of our staff and our friend Chip Ingram, we are discovering that spirituality has been hijacked from the New Age movement. However, true spirituality is Christ living His new life in and through us. Hopefully, we are learning spiritual thoughts with spiritual words so that through the Holy Spirit we may know the things freely given to us by God (1 Corinthians 2:12). It is not out of pride in what I am but victory in Who I know and Who knows me. My greatest title is: Hayes Wicker, Christian. Whats your title? Our line should be service to our awesome, exalted Lord.

Its summer time in Southwest Florida...time to relax, take a few deep breaths, and calm down for a few months. However, your Great Commission Connection missionaries dont have that luxury. They are still working hard out there in the world spreading the gospel. Please dont forget to connect with your Great Commission Connection missionaries as you are relaxing this summer. If your Change the World bank is full, you may make your deposit at the Lighthouse Bookstore (during regular operating hours), the Media Ministry Counter (during regular operating hours), or the Fellowship Hallway Depository (available at all times during the week, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and before/after all worship services and events). Simply use the black marker provided and enter your name and your change bank number on the plastic deposit bag label provided, open the change bank from the bottom and deposit the change into the plastic deposit bag, remove adhesive strip from the back of the plastic deposit bag, close the flap making sure bag is sealed, and drop the plastic deposit bag into the depository at your selected location. After making your deposit, KEEP THE BANK and continue to collect your change for the Great Commission Connection. Remember, each dollar from your Change the World bank goes directly to our Cooperative Program to aid in the funding of over 11,000 national and international missionaries. These dollars also help fund state and local missions efforts, as well as the training of thousands of students in our six Southern Baptist Seminaries.
