 BACKGROUND
The 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)
presents several unique features. While the
diagnosis is confirmed using Reverse
Transcriptase polymerase chain reaction
(PCR), infected patients with pneumonia may
present on chest X-ray and computed
tomography (CT) images with a pattern that is
only moderately characteristic for the human
eye.
“Early diagnosis of COVID-19 is crucial for disease treatment
and control. Compared to RT-PCR, chest X-Ray/CT imaging
may be a more reliable, practical and rapid method to
diagnose and assess COVID-19, especially in the limited
resource area.”

 MOTIVATION
While RT-PCR tests offer many
advantages they are physical things
that require shipping the test or the
sample. X-ray/CT Scans machines
can be plugged in to screen
patients as long as they have
electricity.

The diagnosis of COVID-19 is confirmed by

reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction
(RT-PCR) or gene sequencing for respiratory or blood
specimens, as the key indicator for hospitalization.
However, with limitations of sample collection and
transportation, as well as kit performance, the total
positive rate of RT-PCR for throat swab samples has
been reported to be about 30 to 60 percent at initial

The numbers are increasing every day and it already crossed 230. 1
infected person can infect uncountable numbers in the large country
like India where the testing has been limited i.e. mainly the Indians
coming from abroad are getting tested.

Challenges We are Facing
The biggest challenges of using AI for
disease diagnosis is the lack of labeled
data. Data is not readily available and
only medical professionals are qualified
to label the data. Furthermore, data
collection is often biased to specific
demographics and the hospital
equipment used to collect the data.
From this project, Our main objective is
to keep improving the AI with more
screening data and to detect numbers
of suspects in critical epidemic. The
project will be helpful to detect in the
upcoming outbreak too.
