Narrative

in National Service Training Program 2 – CWTS
Vegetable Garden

Franz Angelo D. Ancheta of BSCS 1

Week 1 (February 27 2021)
Narratives
Based on what I have learned in the uploaded supplemental video for discussion, National Service
Training Program 2 mainly focused on Community Immersion. It is the exposure and participation in various
activities in the community that aims to mold and raise consciousness among students like me to be socially
conscious and accountable. It is adherent to the philosophy of Confucius, “Give man a fish and he will live for
a day, teach man how to fish and he will live for a lifetime.” I believe that this community immersion
empowers us towards development of the locality. Allowing myself to be exposed to this will make me
understand the concepts and theories behind the dynamics of groups and community and be able to gain
knowledge on the very process of immersion. Specifically, it develops our consciousness ability that will help
solve problems in the community. Personally, I will acquire firsthand experiences in dealing with community
works and have a chance to learn life skills that will enrich my personality.

This day is the introduction of the course as well as the orientation of the different guidelines,
activities and projects for this subject, National Service Training Program 2 (NSTP2). I was not able to attend
the online meeting because I thought I was included in the NSTP class list of my co-BSCS students. But I was
able to catch up with the different activities and projects required by our subject teacher.

March 01, 2021

I asked my classmates to include me in their FB Group chat and did back reading about some
announcements. I was able to collect information on how to conduct the said activities and project. I joined
our online-class platform, Edmodo, and was able to identify the specific activities that we have to do during
the entire semester. We are going to make a vegetable garden, do tree planting activities, make a compost
pit, do proper waste segregation, provide products (food processing and crafting) for livelihood programs,
and make a narrative report and VLOG during the actual performance of the said activities.

After having been equipped with the different activities that had to be done for the whole semester,
I started to make an action plan and was able to provide a list of activities that I have to do every week. I
started deciding where I will make my vegetable garden and started cleaning the area. After cleaning the
area, I started plowing the soil and made two garden plots.

On this day, me and my cousin collected fertilizers (cow dung) from the cattle house of my uncle.
We mixed the fertilizers into the garden soil and made it ready for the replanting for the next day.

When I woke up this morning, I had noticed that some part of the garden plot was destroyed by the
chickens. I decided to put a fence around the garden plot to serve as protection from other animals. I went
to the farm and collected two bamboo and made posts for the garden fence. I collected the old garden net
and repaired it and put it around the garden.

Today is the replanting day. I decided to plant eggplants into my garden because eggplant seedlings
are available to be transferred. I did the replanting during the afternoon as per instructed by my mother.

Together with my cousin, we started cleaning the area. I plowed and elevated the soil and formed it into a
garden plot.

From left to right is the process of preparing the garden plot from cleaning the area, plowing and elevating
the plot, mixing fertilizers (cow dung) with the garden soil, to making it ready for transplanting.
