ACTIVITY 2:
Literature because I love reading. Reading great literature exercises the
imagination. I enjoy stories and it is a pleasure to meet characters and to live in their
world. We experience their joys and sorrows when we read their stories. An active
imagination helps us perceive truth, make value judgments, and deal with the complexities
of life in creative ways. It even aid in our ability to use logic and to reason well. Reading
Literature transports us out of our current context and into other ages and places. Also
reading literature enables us to see the world through the eyes of others. It trains the mind
to be flexible, to comprehend other points of view to set aside one’s personal perspectives to
see life through the eyes of someone who is of another age, class, or race. Reading literature
nurtures and develops the power of sympathetic insight. Great works of literature have
played a fundamental role in shaping society. For example, “Hudhud ni Aliguyon” this a
famous epic that came from the Ifugao province of Luzon in the Philippines. It narrates
events about the culture and traditions of the Ifugao and their hero, Aliguyon. Belonging in
the genre of Hudhud di Ani for harvesting in the fields, this heroic epic has three functions.
The lesson in this story is learn how to forgive. Solving problems by engaging into wars or
battles are pointless as it will not do anything. Problems can be solved in a harmonious way
too. Fighting is not the answer. It will hurt more people and may lead to more battles.
Meanwhile, learning how to forgive can lead to peace between two parties. This is why
forgiveness is important. If people won't learn how to forgive, it may cause a greater
problem. In conclusion, reading literature helps us to know ourselves in short to
understand man.
