Introduction

Through this activity corresponding to phase 4 of the Didactics of English course

we will be addressing the issues related to productive and receptive skills and the order of

development of the skills. This activity was divided into 2 parts 1 theoretical part and the

second practical part.

There are four skills in English Language one is the receptive and another is the

productive skill. In receptive skills, it includes two skills listening and reading skills and in

productive skills, one is speaking and writing.

Receptive language skills consist of the abilities to successfully read and listen,

Productive language skills consist of the learner’s abilities to efficiently write and speak in

a foreign language.

In the practical component, 13 hours were completed, 8 hours of participant

observation, 2 hours of material creation and 3 hours of ESAPEC, a video was also made

according to the experiences lived in the observed classes.

Definition of receptive and productive skills

“Receptive language skills consist of the abilities to successfully read and listen,

and consequently comprehend a foreign language. Since nobody is born with these abilities,

these skills have to be learned and mastered. Even listening, which seems an obvious

inborn ability, must be learned too. An act of listening cannot be compared merely to “tape-

recording”, (Ivančić,2014,p.2). Receptive and productive language skills are those in which

students receive and process information.” Productive language skills consist of the

learner’s abilities to efficiently write and speak in a foreign language” (Ivančić,2014,p.8).

The order of development of the skills

There are four skills in English Language one is the receptive and another is the

productive skill. In receptive skills, it includes two skills listening and reading skills and in

productive skills, one is speaking and writing.

The teaching of listening skills: listening is the basis of learning a language “listening is

complete only when we understand what we listen. So listening skills have to be developed

with the help of certain tasks. Listening should be convoyed by some activity through

which students can demonstrate their comprehension and experience the pleasure of

success” (Ganesh, 2015, p.2).

The teaching of reading Skills: Reading favors the learning of English because this way

you can expand vocabulary, reinforce grammar and spelling “Reading should be followed by
checking the learners’ understanding of comprehension. In addition, teacher can use specific

activities for developing reading, using materials that are authentic” (Ganesh, 2015, p.4).

The teaching of speaking Skills: The ability to speak in a foreign language is divided in

two large categories: spoken interaction and spoken production. The former one refers to a

student’s ability to interact with other interlocutors, whether native speakers or other

learners. It includes the ability to listen, comprehend, interpret the message using the

background knowledge, producing response or message relevant to the topic and

grammatically correct. ” (Ivančić,2014,p.12).

The teaching of writing Skills: writing helps to achieve fluency in oral and written skills

to understand the sentence structures of a language in fact writing involves motor skills

such as handwriting and cognitive skills such as arranging ideas.

Definition of receptive and productive skills

Receptive skills refer to two skills: listening comprehension and writing . On the

other hand, productive skills refer to speaking and reading skills. According to GANESH

B. MUNDH these are the 4 skills of a person in English language

The order of development of the skills

The order of the development of the skills are:

First: Listening. This is a skill which is the first that we develop and that is often neglected

by teachers by not developing that skill with which we adapt to our native language.

Second: Speaking. The ability of speaking develops after having acquired knowledge of

words, phrases, etc. thanks to listening to the sounds we hear from birth

Third: Reading . Reading is an activity that allows us to personally think, analyze and give

our own criteria on different aspects that this text shows us. It is an excellent activity for the

development of our criteria, critical thinking, and brain stimulation

Fourth: Wrtiting. According to the writer of the document “TEACHING RECEPTIVE

AND PRODUCTIVE LANGUAGE SKILLS WITH THE HELP OF TECHNIQUES” the


writing can be very different from what is spoken. Writing in the English language can be

more complicated if related to what is spoken and what is written. Many times, in writing,

things can become more punctual and exact, since our perception of listening can

sometimes fail us, misinterpreting the message and hearing words that were not actually

said.

Conclusions
The english Skills are important if we really wan to be fluency in english Language,

every skill are important, we can't have a complete command of the language without these

four skills. We can´t forget we can start with listening firts, because according to this skill,

we can be able to learn others.

Skills are important for the production of knowledge, thanks to these skills we can

express ourselves and communicate with other people,

Receptive skills are those in which students receive and process information, but do

not need to produce a language to do so, while productive skills require production,

In this phase it was possible to observe different classes which were very good for

us as future teachers, in this activity we were able to reinforce all our knowledge and skills.

Reading skills: For this activity the student must read the text and according to the text
must to choose the correct answer

London is a famous and historic city. It is the capital of England in the United Kingdom. The city is quite popular
for international tourism because London is home to one of the oldest-standing monarchies in the western
hemisphere. Rita and Joanne recently traveled to London. They were very excited for their trip because this was
their first journey overseas from the United States.
Among the popular sights that Rita and Joanne visited are Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the London Eye.
Big Ben is one of London’s most famous monuments. It is a large clock tower located at the northern end of
Westminster Palace. The clock tower is 96 meters tall. Unfortunately, Rita and Joanne were only able to view the
tower from the outside. The women learned that the tower’s interior is undergoing renovations until 2021.
Fortunately, the London Eye, the city’s famous Ferris wheel, was open to the public. The London Eye is situated
along the southern shores of the Thames River. This attraction stands 135 meters high. It is one of London’s most
well-known spots for gaining aerial views of the city. Each capsule of the Ferris wheel can hold up to 25
passengers. When their capsule stopped at the top of the Ferris wheel, the women took spectacular panoramic
photographs of the beautiful cityscape below.
The last place that Rita and Joanne visited was Buckingham Palace, the home of the Queen of England. The
women were impressed by the palace’s incredible architecture and historical value. Both Rita and Joanne enjoyed
watching the Queen’s guards outside the palace. These guards wore red tunic uniforms, shiny black boots, and
bearskin hats. Despite the women’s attempts to catch the attention of the guards, the guards are specifically
trained to avoid distractions. Because of this, the guards ignored the women completely.
Joanne and Rita had an amazing time visiting the city of London, and they are inspired to seek more international
travel destinations in the future.
