Activity #2 (Synchronous)

REFLECTION:

 I believe the basic purpose of the social work profession is to help individuals,
families, and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being.
Social workers are change agents and because of that, they aim to help people
develop their skills and abilities to use resources provided to them to strengthen
and improve their lives and communities to resolve problems. The social work
profession considers the individuals’ internal and external struggles while working
with the individuals to examine their relationships, family, work environment,
community, and other things that might impact them and identify ways to help
address problems and challenges. However, my understanding of the social work
profession is helping someone to make positive changes in his or her life that result
in a better quality of life. Understanding the social work profession, to me, means
having the heart and mindset to advocate for those that society considers
undeserving. They do more than just help them in their current situation, it’s about
helping them to survive and set attainable goals to live a fuller and better life for
themselves, and most of the time for their families. As a social worker, it is
important to listen, communicate, and build rapport with boundaries with their
clients in order to be an effective social worker.
