Enrico Miceli: BPI Commercial Compostability Certification Scheme
Enrico Miceli: BPI Commercial Compostability Certification Scheme
Dear Vivek,
Based on the information that you provided for the BPI application for Areca Leaf Tableware, max thickness 5 mm --
Procedure 20211025-01, and the requirements of the most current BPI Commercial Compostability Certification
Scheme, we will need the following tests from a BPI-Approved Lab. Here is a link to those approved labs:
BPI does not regulate lab fees, so you will have to check directly with the lab of your choice.
This item is eligible to be assessed to either D6400 or D6868 according to BPI’s current certification scheme (version
2.3). Below are two test schemes, one for assessment to D6400 and the other for D6868. Please decide on the
standard you’d like for assessment, and contact the BPI Approved lab of your choice to conduct the testing for your
chosen standard. If your item was previously assessed to ASTM D6868 and you are going for recertification against
ASTM D6400, please be aware that you may need to conduct biodegradation testing for ligno-cellulosic items, as
detailed below.
Tests Required:
Please note that the provision of this test scheme in no way implies that the items will successfully pass the required
tests.
Please have the lab that you select send us (BPI and DIN CERTCO) the test results and make sure that they use the
procedure number 20211025-01 as the reference on the tests and the email so that we apply them to the correct
project. Test results MUST come directly from the lab for verification purposes to the BPI project manager copied
on this email.
Sincerely,
