Introduction of PEC
PEC stands for Pakistan Engineering Council. This organization takes care of registration and
accreditation of engineers, professional development and establishing standards for
engineering products. It also outlines the guidelines for ethical conduct for engineers.

Code of Ethics of PEC

 Welfare of Mankind

“Give full measure and wait justly and defraud not men of their things, and act not
corruptly in the land, making mischief.”

PEC states that the principle of welfare of mankind by outlining the words of Holy Quran
guiding man to be just and refrain from the acts that deviate from welfare of mankind.

 Work in Area of Competence

“And follow not that of which thou has no knowledge. Surely the hearing and sight and
heart, all of these it will be asked.”

PEC gives the guidelines by discouraging engagement in area that doesn’t concern a person.

 Public Honesty

“And speak straight words.”

PEC also instructs the engineers to refrain from deceitful information and deliver the words
of truth.

 Faithfulness

“Allah commands you to render back your trust to those to whom they are, and that when
you judge between people, you judge with justice. Allah admonishes you with what is
excellent”.

PEC also instructs to stay faithful and never betray the trust of those who have invested in
you.

 No Deception

“Give full measure and weight justly and defraud not men of their things, and act not
corruptly in the land, making mischief.”

PEC instructs engineers to refrain from acts of deceptions and cause mischief by deceitful
acts.
PEC aspires to produce world class engineers who work towards the same aim: to make this
world a better place for humans to live in.

Important points according to my understanding

According to my point of view the three most important codes out of all codes of ethics of
PEC are:

 Welfare of Mankind
 Work in Area of Competence
 Faithfulness

Above mentioned points cover the whole focus and goals of Pakistan Engineering Council
that is why if the peoples specifically Engineers follow all of them than it will definitely aid
them in decision making. All of the code of ethics are written as word to word and also
explained briefly above.

Welfare of Mankind is obviously important as it is the main purpose and it addresses that
one should not perform any act that deviates him/her from welfare of mankind. Working in
Area of Competence is another import code that highlights the point of not to engage in the
area that does not concerns you. Lastly Faithfulness; it is important because it covers several
points under this one heading. No deception and Public Honesty also somehow comes under
faithfulness which includes not betraying trust of peoples, delivering the words of truth and
refraining from acts of deception.
