1. A projectile P is fired from a point O Of a horizontal plane at t=0 s . The projectile passes through
two points A and B whose position vectors are respectively (ai+18.75 j ¿ m∧( ( a+10 ) i+18.75 j ) m
relative to O. Given that P passes through A at time t 1s and through B at time (t 1+1 ¿ s , find :

2. A car is travelling along a motorway at 110km/h. at a point A, the driver observes a sign warning of
road works ahead ordering a reduction of speed to v km/h. The driver immediately applies the
brakes so that the speed of the car is uniformly retarded in t minutes to v km/h. The car maintains
this speed until a road clear sign is reached. The driver then accelerates uniformly for 3 t minutes

4. Two particles P and Q of masses 2 m and 5 m respectively are connected by a light inextensible
string. Particle P lies on a horizontal table and the string passes over a small smooth fixed pulley at
the edge of the table so that particle Q hangs freely at the other end of the string at a distance 2l
above the ground. The coefficient of friction between P and the table is ½ and the frictional force
between the string and the table is negligible. The system is released from rest with both parts
vertical. Find:

b) The acceleration of the system,
c) The magnitude and direction of the force exerted on the pulley.

horizontal floor in a line perpendicular to a smooth vertical wall. The sphere B is nearer the wall than
A. Sphere A is given a velocity of Um/ s along the line of centres and strikes B directly. If coefficient

impacts are m/s and m/s respectively.
