Materials: Blackboard, chalk, textbook (Text 2), a photocopy of the dictation passage

(Text 2), 32 pieces of dictation papers (single-lined)

Description of students:

They are a group of fresh graduates who have just directly promoted from the school

where English is used as their medium of teaching, therefore their English level is

relatively higher compared to those in Chinese-medium school. They have past

knowledges and experiences of having formal dictation as they have been doing

dictation at regular intervals during primary school. However, specific rules and

instructions are necessary to be announced every time before the dictation as some of

them may be forgotten. Moreover, the seen passage (Text2) has been clearly

prescribed for them to study (two weeks before the dictation date).

Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to

(a) Derive the meanings of the listened content into actual spelling.

(b) Spell the words and phrases accurately.

(c) Identify the punctuations into symbols (e.g., transforming opened brackets

and closed brackets into “()”).


(d) Apply previously learnt grammatical structures into writing. For example,

prepositions (e.g., in, to, into) and gerunds (e.g., has problems shopping, a

feeling from watching it).

(e) Comprehend the written text by checking if the sentences are making

senses (after finished the writing).
