Don Bosco Development Services Nerul, Navi Mumbai – April 2022

Don Bosco Nerul is committed to reach out to the many migrants and underprivileged migrant children
from different nodes of Navi Mumbai.
Educate and Empower:
Most of the children, whom we teach, are mainly from the marginalized and migrant community.
We noticed that their families do not have proper documentation like aadhar or any identity proof hence,
some of the kids leave school and move from their villages to Mumbai in order to make some extra
money.
Our social workers visit these places to ensure that these children stay connected to learning, their
parents are encouraged to learn tailoring, beautician, NIOS etc. These children are taught to read,
recite, write and engage in creative and outdoor fun activities. We also have had sponsors pay for the
school fees of many children that could not afford them.
We have a volunteer who is situated in Tokyo and she has been kind enough to conduct online nursery
classes for Aryan (name changed) Initially, the child was very distracted and always repeated every
sentence being taught and had some learning disabilities. It has been 4 months since his classes
started online and we are happy to see him progress and improve. He is being admitted to a school
this new Scholastic year.
Community Fridge:
With the Mumbai temperatures rising to almost 40 degrees and humidity being higher than ever this
year, many came forward to sponsor bottled water to give to the migrants and the rag - pickers, street
hawkers and anyone who asked us for water, to find some respite from the sveltering heat.
Recently a senior citizen, from a good family, requested for food. “I am alone at home as all go to
work. I heard about the community fridge and the hot food which is served. I feel so happy that I can
get to eat a healthy meal and khichdi which is my favourite food”, he said with a smile.
Skilling for Migrant women:
We are happy to see the progress of the tailoring classes which we had started with the CSW
(Commercial Sex Workers) a few months ago in their locality. The goal, to get them to learn to generate
their own income, is being arrived at.
We look forward to your continued generosity, support, and prayers.

God Bless You and Thank You!

Stay safe, stay Blessed!
