Happenings
 SAC meeting was held on 29th Dec with representatives involved in 13th Annual Day
Celebrations. Students enthusiastically participated and gave appraisals about the events
in which they took responsibilities and came up with suggestions for improvements.
 Congratulations to Dr.K.Vasu Babu, Assoc.Prof, ECE for securing 22 citations in the
year 2020 and with overall citations of 44 since 2015 for all his research papers.
 Bus, Canteen and Hostel Fees details for the academic year 2020-21 have been
published by the admin office. Students are urged to pay the fees immediately!

Inspiring Personalities Technology Updates

Nautam Bhagwanlal Bhatt (10 April
1909 – 6 July 2005) was an Indian
physicist born in Jamnagar, Gujarat. He was
the founding Director Solid State Physics
Laboratory, Delhi. He was a recipient of
Padma Shri Award for his contributions to
“Science and Engineering”. Bhatt received his
MSc degree in physics under the Nobel
Laureate, C. V. Raman, at IISc, Bangalore.
Following a year of teaching, Bhatt was
awarded a fellowship by the Maharaja of
Bhavnagar to pursue the doctorate program
at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
where he earned his Ph.D. degree in physics in
1939. After Indian Independence he started to
work for country and founded “Defense
Science Laboratory” and worked for
development of defense technologies. Dr.
Bhatt founded the Electrical Communications
s
Engineering Department at IISc, Bangalore.
He was the founding member of IETE and
established Central Electronics Engineering
Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani. Dr. Bhatt
designed the acoustics for several theatres and
auditoriums in India, including the Odeon and
Sheila Cinemas in New Delhi and the
Legislative Assembly Hall in Gandhinagar,
Gujarat.

Most of the wind available on land
is too gentle to push commercial wind
turbine blades, but now researchers have
designed a kind of “tiny wind turbine” that
can scavenge wind energy from breezes as
little as those created by a brisk walk. The
method is a low-cost and efficient way of
collecting light breezes as a micro-energy
source. The new device is not technically a
turbine. It is a nanogenerator made of two
plastic strips in a tube that flutter or clap
together when there is airflow. Like rubbing
a balloon to your hair, the two plastics
become electrically charged after being
separated from contact, a phenomenon
called the triboelectric effect. But instead of
making your hair stand up like Einstein's,
the electricity generated by the two plastic
strips is captured and stored. “We once
placed our nanogenerator on a person's arm,
and a swinging arm's airflow was enough to
generate power,” researchers say. A breeze
as gentle as 1.6 m/s (3.6 mph) was enough s
to power the triboelectric nanogenerator
designed by the researchers.
