Instructional Goals and Defined Outcomes:

1.(Knowledge or skills the students will have gained upon completing the course in 3-5 sentences)

Participants will experience the role the arts, culture and technology can play in an integrated
curriculum through study of SE Alaska Native values, arts, song and dance as well as the Hammond
Ready for Rigor Framework and the SAMR guidelines. Participants will have grown in their
understanding of implementing culturally responsive teaching, their knowledge of diverse uses of
technology, their familiarity with the role of languages in honoring cultures, and their ability to draw
and understand formline design.

Assessment of Student Performance (beyond attendance):

2. How will students demonstrate that objectives were met?
Participants will:
a. study, practice and draw formline designs,
b. use BandLab for Education to create their own composition
c. contribute to a cultural rap inspired by Soul Science Lab
d. choreograph a movement piece based upon their name
e. sing and dance to Wooch.een
f. practice using multiple tech programs and apps with their classroom in mind

11/24/2021 kfc
3. Describe the products and performances resulting from the teaching and learning activities.
The final products and performances will include:
a. Create a BandLab composition based upon a mission statement
b. Create a collaborative class rap using Carnegie Hall Education Resources
c. Perform choreographed dance integrating culturally responsive principles
d. Sing Lingít song: Wooch een yéi jigax̱toonéi

f. Identify tech tools and programs that they will add to their integrated curriculum

4. Describe how students will be expected to integrate the knowledge and skills they have gained in
this course into their professional practice.

Participants will be expected to reflect daily in on-line journals on what they have been experiencing,
how it has affected them, and the impact it has on their own teaching practice. Teacher-leaders will
read and respond each night to these journals, adding ideas and encouraging them to think broadly and
be brave with what is new to them.

5. For ED courses (per UAS Academic Catalog) “students are expected to put in two hours of
outside effort for every one hour in class in accordance with the standard Carnegie unit of
credit.” Describe the “outside effort” (i.e. homework, practice, implement, etc.) and hours (1
credit=25 hours, 2 credits=50 hours, and 3 credits=75 hours).

Participants will have pre-institute assignments including reading an introductory article about
culturally responsive teaching, describing their classroom and the role of technology, and designing a
‘flatlay’ to introduce themselves. They will have homework each night and a final assignment that will
be due within a week from the closing of the Institute.
