The objective of SHIP (Social and Human Innovation by Practical S
cience and Engineering) Field Practice B is that students acquire
prototyping, evaluation and iterative improvement skills" in real-wo
rld problem-solving.
In this intensive course, students find and tackle real-world proble
ms through field researches. Through this workshop-style activitie
s including research in a real world and a series of short lectures,
students learn the basics of real-world problem-solving. SHIP Field
Practice B focuses on the methods to prototype a solution idea an
d evaluate the created product for next improvement cycle. This c
ourse aims at motivating students to learn the various design met
hods which can be applied to their research domain.

Objectives The goal of SHIP Field Practice B is that students acquire knowledge and skills for:
- Rapid and low-fidelity prototyping and evaluation
- Iterative improvement

It also includes the following practical knowledges, capabilities and skills:


- Field research basics.
- Low-fidelity prototyping of a product based on a solution idea in a short time and evaluate it using appropri

- Improving the design and prototype and evaluating it iteratively for reaching an optimal solution efficiently.

before/after Assigned work before class: Carefully read and understand documents on the course Moodle site. Assigned
course of study work before class will take around 90 minutes.

Assigned work after class: Examine the materials and results of the previous class to clarify everything you s
hould understand. Prepare a report if assigned in the class. Assigned work after class will take around 120 mi
nutes.
