2-

Velocity of the 1𝑠𝑡layer (v1) can be found out from the slope :

1 1
= 1.7 → 𝑉1 = = 0.6 𝑚/𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑐
𝑉1 17

Similarly, velocity of the 2𝑛𝑑layer :

1 1
= 0.52 → 𝑉2 = = 1.923 𝑚/𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑐
𝑉2 0.52
Velocity of the 3𝑟𝑑layer :

1 1
= 0.17 → 𝑉3 = = 5.88 𝑚/𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑐
𝑉3 0.17

Intercept time for the arrive of the first refracted wave is 66.7 milisec and the
arrival of the 2𝑛𝑑 fracted wave is 85.5 milisec.

There are three layers has been determined , in which the velocity of seismic
waves are increasing by the depth .

The intersection of the direct wave and the first refracted wave given the
cross- over distance on X-axis.

So , thickness of first layer (h1)

Xcross =2h2[𝑉𝑉33+−𝑉𝑉22]0.5

5.88+1.923 0.5
70.5=2h2[ ]
5.88−1.923

70.5 = 2.807 h2 h

2= 25.12m

The slope of refracted wave is decreasing at the interface at the greater

depth.
The indicates the density as well as the velocity in each layer increases
through the depth and bottom layer having highest velocity
