YEARLY EXAMINATION – 2021-2022
SUBJECT – PHYSICS
CLASS – 11TH
TIME : 2:00 HRS MM: 35
From 1-5 each question will carry 1 marks

1. A piece of copper having a rectangular cross-section of 15.2 mm × 19.1 mm is pulled in tension

with 44,500 N force, producing only elastic deformation. Calculate the resulting strain?

2. What is pascal’s law?

3. What is Convection?

4. In a car lift compressed air exerts a force F1 on a small piston having a radius of 5.0 cm. This

pressure is transmitted to a second piston of radius 15 cm . If the mass of the car to be lifted is

1350 kg, calculate F1 . What is the pressure necessary to accomplish this task? (g = 9.8 ms-2)

5. State the kelvin plank statement.

From 5-10 each question will carry 2 marks.

6. A refrigerator is to maintain eatables kept inside at 90 0C. If room temperature is 360 0C,

calculate the coefficient of performance

7. Derive the continuity Equation.

8. Define the following terms –

1. Elasticity 2. Radiation

9. On an average, a human heart is found to beat 75 times in a minute. Calculate its frequency and

period.

10. The terminal velocity of a copper ball of radius 2.0 mm falling through a tank of oil at 20oC is 6.5

cm s-1. Compute the viscosity of the oil at 20oC. Density of oil is 1.5 ×103 kg m-3, density of

copper is 8.9 × 103 kg m-3 .

From 11-14 each will carry 3 marks.

11. Derive the expression of energy in simple harmonic Motion (SHM).

12. Derive expression of work done in Adiabatic process.

13. Explain why

(a) The blood pressure in humans is greater at the feet than at the brain

(b) Atmospheric pressure at a height of about 6 km decreases to nearly half of its value at the sea

level, though the height of the atmosphere is more than 100 km

(c) Hydrostatic pressure is a scalar quantity even though pressure is force divided by area.

14. Explain the stress strain curve.

From 15-16 Each will carry 4 marks.

15. Derive the Bernoulli’s Equation. Also Write its any three applications.

Calculate the heat required to convert 3 kg of ice at –12 °C kept in a calorimeter to steam at 100

°C at atmospheric pressure. Given specific heat capacity of ice = 2100 J kg–1 K–1, specific heat

capacity of water = 4186 J kg– 1 K–1, latent heat of fusion of ice = 3.35 × 105 J kg–1 and latent

heat of steam = 2.256 ×106 J kg–1 .

16. Answer the following questions :

(a) Time period of a particle in SHM depends on the force constant k and mass m of the particle:

T =2π (m/k)1/2 . A simple pendulum executes SHM approximately. Why then is the time period

of a pendulum independent of the mass of the pendulum?

(b) The motion of a simple pendulum is approximately simple harmonic for small angle

oscillations. For larger angles of oscillation, a more involved analysis shows that T is greater than

2π( l /g)1/2 . Think of a qualitative argument to appreciate this result.

(c) A man with a wristwatch on his hand falls from the top of a tower. Does the watch give

correct time during the free fall ?

(d) What is the frequency of oscillation of a simple pendulum mounted in a cabin that is freely

falling under gravity ?
