Deloso Module 1: COMMUNICATION

BSME 2-B AN OVERVIEW

SPEECH AND ORAL COMMUNICATION EXERCISES

Write an easy for each section. Details are below.

 What is communication?

Communication, in its most basic form, is the process of sending and receiving messages.
Communication is an essential survival tool not only for animals but, more importantly, for
humans. Communication allows for the transmission of messages in a comprehensible
manner through the use of language. It is regarded as an ongoing process, a two-way
process in which information is exchanged between two or more individuals via a shared
system of signs, symbols, and behavior.

 How different is communication to speech communication?

Communication, as we all know, refers to the sending and receiving of messages between
individuals and groups of people. Communication can take place in a variety of ways,
including written communication, body language, and so on. On the contrary, speech
communication is merely a component of communication, or more specifically, a verbal
mode of communication. It is a procedure that includes participants, context, messages,
channels, noise, feedback, and a frame of reference.

 Why is communication important to the engineering field?

Communication is crucial in the engineering field for a variety of reasons. In engineering, for
example, we know that most engineers are required to write reports that are either detailed
or lengthy or contain charts and graphs. As a result, engineering communication skills are
required for the presentation of ideas and designs. Engineers who can clearly communicate
their ideas can confidently present them in meetings and reports.

 How does communication take place?

When there is a sender and a receiver, communication occurs. The sender is the person
who starts the communication process and establishes the communication's purpose. The
receiver, on the other hand, is the person to whom the message is addressed and sent. As a
result, when a sender expresses an emotion or a feeling, it generates an idea or perceives a
need to communicate. The communication process is now initiated when the receiver
receives the message, which is the result of the sender's conscious or unconscious decision.

 How different is verbal to non-verbal communication?

The distinction between these two types of communication is that verbal communication
refers to spoken and written words, whereas written communication refers to symbols. It only
communicates through a single channel: the human voice, which speaks one word at a time.
Nonverbal communication, on the other hand, uses signals such as visual, audible, and
movement clues to convey information. As a result, it communicates with you through a
variety of channels, including your entire body, facial expressions, and voice tone.
MODULE 2: LISTENING

 What is listening?

Receiving, constructing meaning from, and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal

messages is the process of listening. It is also the cognitive process by which we assign
meaning to aural signals. After being translated, sound waves are sent to the brain to be
interpreted. The registration of impulses and their assignment to meaningful context is the
process of interpretation.

 Why is listening important in the engineering field?

Because listening is so important in achieving purposeful interaction, being able to listen and
listen well can be honed and improved in the engineering field. As a reliability engineer,
focusing on becoming a better listener will improve your ability to communicate and
influence. As a result, listening allows you to establish a strong rapport with others while also
demonstrating that you value what they have to say.

 What are some communication dilemmas of engineering on listening?

Being able to communicate effectively while also listening attentively is essential for
engineers. However, there are times when these are disregarded. When having a
conversation with a customer, for example, some engineers have poor listening skills, as if
they jump to a conclusion before the speaker's meaning is fully expressed. Another is to
question whether it is worthwhile to listen to one's sender based on his physical appearance.
Overall, as an engineer, having a bad habit of listening causes a disruption in the flow of
messages and information, which can have a negative impact on your career.

 How will you address those communication dilemmas?

To solve those communication problems, one must first learn the fundamentals of how to
overcome listening barriers. Instead of jumping to conclusions about the speaker's message,
give the speaker time to develop and support his or her main point before agreeing or
disagreeing, or believing the message has any value. Another is that, rather than focusing
on a speaker's appearance, you should concentrate on his or her message rather than
criticizing an unpolished speaker's appearance.
MIDTERM PROJECT

(Term Paper)

The module on speech and oral communication helps me realize many things. One
of these is that I learned that knowing proper communication is important as a student, and
having an understanding of the nature of communication paired with listening helps people
socialize or associate with others. I also discovered that communication is very essential in
the field that I've chosen, which is engineering. And as an introverted person, this module
encourages me to engage in a conversation in which I don’t have to be afraid if I make a
mistake.

The process of sending and receiving messages is the most basic type of
communication. Through the use of language, communication allows for the transfer of
messages in an intelligible manner. It is viewed as a two-way process in which information is
communicated between two or more individuals using a shared system of signs, symbols,
and behavior. There are many types of communication for example verbal and non-verbal,
also its elements like the sender, message, receiver and etc. In this I learned that as a
students I must mastered this all types of communication which helps me to tell my concern
or expresses my ideas and opinion. On the other hand, Listening is the process of receiving,
interpreting, and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal messages. It's also the mental
process via which we give aural signals meaning. There are kinds of listening, common
attributes and its most important purpose. In this part I learned that having a mastered in
communication doesn’t make you good, you must paired it with better listening in order the
two work together along. Furthermore, applying these two in a field is much needed.
Communication is crucial in the engineering field. Engineers who can clearly communicate
their ideas can confidently present them in meetings and reports. As a reliability engineer,
focusing on becoming a better listener will improve your ability to communicate. Listening
allows you to establish a strong rapport with others while also demonstrating that you value
what they say.

Overall, through the making of this module, the introverted self I feel inside of me has
started to replenish with confidence. It makes me think that engaging in a conversation with
someone isn't always bad, especially when I need something or I want to express my
emotions and feelings. So, I think the module is just giving tips on how to properly socialize
with others.
