-formal education begins in primary school – this is compulsory
-student usually attend two cycles of primary school – lower and upper primary -schools are co-educational and not single-sex -most schools are public institutions run by the state -run by various foundations(alapítvány) or by religious communities -primary schools follow the national curriculum (tanterv) -vocational schools focus on training for certain jobs and professions -take a school-leaving exam -entrance exam for higher education -students may pay tuition fees -garnts are available (ösztöndíj) and help cover the costs -sign up for a course -skipp lectures -submit his dissertation (beadja) -mock exam (próbavizsga) -hand in our assignments (beadja a faladatot) -enroll in extra courses (beiratkozik) -fail the exam -retake the exam -gap year -job applications -qualifications -scholarship(ösztöndíj) -work experience School traditions in the US -the promenade dance is usually referred to as the prom -it is an annual traditionwhich celebrates the end of high school in the US – tipically held at the end of the final term -students wear formal clothes (boys – tuxedo, girls – evening dresses) -it is a tradition for them to arrive as a couple -The prom date brings the girl a corsage: a decoration with flowers worn around the wrist and similar flowers are pinned to each boy’s suit -At prom students celebrate with their clasmates for one last time before leaving school -it is probably the highlight of a senior student’s school year -At the end of the event, one girl and boy are elected as prom queen and king. My school -it is a secondary grammar school with 5 parallel classes -my school can be found in Zalaegerszeg and it is a two-storey building -it is well-equipped rooms with IT gadgets and we have 3 rooms with full of computers -In my school IT and language education occupy an important place in our curriculum -I must say that learning foreign languages has been playing an important role in my everyday life -I have been learning English for 9 years and German for 5 years -I like earning languages by reading books and watching televison shows and different series -With knowing a language I think that we can broaden our horizon, indeed sometimes we can only see the whole picture when we understand the originla news and not have to get informations from a translated version of the original news -We have well-equipped biology and chemistry laboratories which offer good opportunity to examine different things from a practical angle -Personally, I attended a class which provided me a lot of language classes from the beginning -It lasted 5 years long and I could acquire (elsajátít) a lot of useful abilities and skills during this period of time - I consider myself as a hard-working person but to be honest completing this school was not easy for me -There are high academic standars and requirements and our teachers are strict but I know that these 5 years were needed to be able to get admission to my dream university -Moreover teachers are not only strickt but also motivating with their challenging tasks -In addition there are some sport groups and artical extracurricular classes which can be attended by everybody -Everybody can be a member of the basketball or the volleyball team. -All in all in the end I think that it was woth it -The community in my class was not so bad, we helped each other, but nobody formed so close relationships -We spent class trips together -it can build a tighter connection between the classmates -collect more memories together -get to know each other better Programmes in the school -every yera we organize various competitions, language evenings. -We go to theater performances and concerts. -But unfortunatelly the cultural life in our school is not so rich -there is also a choir in our school -there are different commemoration ceremonies on 23 October, on 15 March, and some formal and informal events like the Christmas party, the school-leavers ball and the graduation -In some cases students can learn by attending them because the past events they commemorate are part of our country’s history. -At other events students can be together and have a lot of fun. -These events create a sense of community and show that the students belong somewhere. -students in their final year have serenade -there is a graduation ceremony where they wear formal clothes and say goodbye tot he school building, the students and their teachers -Students from other classes tell poems and there are some speeches and song sas well -the school grounds are usually full of people because all the relatives come to see this event – it is always very touching -Commemoration events are important to teach students to be respectful of traditions, in spite of this they do not belong tot he favorite events -in our school we have usually ave stage performances -To be honest I dont really like this kind of events (standing in the heat, hearing the headmaster’s boing speech can be really nerve-wracking) - sometimes pointless -wearing formal clothes is also not so beloved among students
