The Importance of Reading

I personally think that reading is an important activity in our life. Why do I say so?

Firstly, by reading we can get a lot of information about many things in the world such as
science, technology, sports, arts and culture.

Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and knowledge about something happening
in any part of the world which we can see directly.

Thirdly, reading can give us pleasure. When we are tired, we can read books, newspapers or
magazines on the entertainment column such as short stories, comedies or quizzes to make us
relax.

Fourthly, reading can also take us to other parts of the world. By reading a book about Irian
Jaya we may feel that we’re really sitting in the jungles, not at home in our rooms.

Based on the facts above, it is obvious that everyone needs to read books, newspapers,
magazines or others to get knowledge, news, information and also entertainment. In other words,
we can say reading is truly important in our life.

Why We are not Allowed to Text while Driving?

The popularity of mobile devices has had some dangerous consequences. We know that
mobile communications are linked to a significant increase in distracted driving which results in
injury and loss of life.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in 2010 driver
distraction was the cause of 18 percent of all fatal crashes – with 3,092 people killed – and
crashes resulting in an injury – with 416,000 people wounded.

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that text messaging creates a crash risk 23
times worse than driving while not distracted.

Eleven percent of drivers aged 18 to 20 who were involved in an automobile accident and
survived admitted they were sending or receiving texts when they crashed.

Distracted driving endangers life and property and the current levels of injury and loss are
unacceptable.

The importance of Sleep

Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough
quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of
life, and safety. Why Is Sleep Important?

Sleep helps your brain work properly. While you’re sleeping, your brain is preparing for the
next day. It’s forming new pathways to help you learn and remember information.
Studies show that a good night’s sleep improves learning. Whether you’re learning math,
how to play the piano, how to perfect your golf swing, or how to drive a car, sleep helps enhance
your learning and problem-solving skills. Sleep also helps you pay attention, make decisions, and
be creative.

Physical Health often relate to quality sleep. It plays an important role in your physical
health. For example, sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels.
Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high
blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.

Besides that, sleep also helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel
hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you don’t get enough sleep, your level of ghrelin goes up
and your level of leptin goes down. This makes you feel hungrier than when you’re well-rested.
