TIME: 2 HOURS SUBJECT: MATHS (SURFACE AREA & VOLUMES) M.

M 40
SECTION-A
1. The curved surface area of a right circular cone is 12320 cm2. If the radius of its base is 56 cm, then
find its height.
2. If the total surface area of a solid hemisphere is 462 cm 2, find its volume. [Use π=227]
3. Two cones have their heights in the ratio 1 : 3 and radii in the ratio 3 : 1. What is the ratio of their
volumes?
4. The volume of a right circular cylinder with its height equal to the radius is 2517cm 3. Find the height of
the cylinder.
5. Ritu has a solid toy which is in the shape of a cone mounted on a hemisphere of same base radius. If
the curved surface areas of the hemispherical part and the conical part are equal, then what is the
ratio of height and radius of the conical part?
6. A hollows cube of internal edge 22 cm is filled with spherical marbles of diameter 0.5 cm each. If it is
assumed that 18th of the space of cube remains unfilled with the marbles, then find the number of
marbles fitted in the cube.

SECTION-B
7. The difference between the outer and inner curved surface areas of a hollow right circular cylinder, 14
cm long, is 88 cm2. If the volume of metal used in making the cylinder is 176 cm 3, find the outer and
inner radii of the cylinder.
8. A canal is 300 cm wide and 120 cm deep. The water in the canal is flowing at a speed of 20 km/h. How
much area will it irrigate in 20 minutes if 8 cm of standing water is desired?
9. A tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical top. If the height and diameter of the
cylindrical part are 2.1 m and 4 m respectively, and the slant height of the top is 2.8 m, find the area
of the canvas used for making the tent. Also, find the cost of the canvas of the tent at the rate of Rs.
500 per m2. (Note that the base of the tent will not be covered with canvas.)
10. Rasheed got a playing top (lattu) as his birthday present, which surprisingly had no colour on it. He
wanted to colour it with his crayons. The top is shaped like a cone surmounted by a hemisphere. The
entire top is 5 cm in height, and the diameter of the top is 3.5 cm. Find the area he has to colour.
(Take π = 22/7)

SECTION-C
11. The internet and external radii of a spherical shell are 3 cm and 5 cm respectively. It is melted and
recast into a solid cylinder of diameter 14 cm, find the height of the cylinder. Also find the total
surface area of the cylinder. (Take π = 227)

12. A solid toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a right circular cone. The height of the cone
is 2 cm, and the diameter of the base is 4 cm. Determine the volume of the toy. If a right circular
cylinder circumscribes the toy, find the difference between the volumes of the cylinder and the toy.
(Take π = 3.14)

13. A tent is a shelter consisting of sheets of various materials draped over, attached to o frame of poles
or attached to a supporting rope.
A student adventure camp of 3 dags was organized by the school for class X students. Their
accommodation was organized in tents. A group of four students was to share a tent and they were
asked to prepare their own tent. The teacher asked them to prepare a conical tent of radius 7 m and
for this purpose, they were provided a canvas of area 551 m 2 in which 1 m2 is used in stitching and
wasted.
Based on the given information answer the following questions:
(A) Find the height of the tent.
(B) Find the amount of air required by each student in the tent.

14. A school trip was organised for the students of class X to one of the seven wonders of the world, ‘Taj
Mahal’. Teacher told them about the history of Taj Mahal. He also asked them to observe some solid
figures in the monument. One student said, there are four pillars, that are cylindrical in shape. Other
student said, there is a big dome in the centre and two smaller domes on both sides of the big dome.
Also, the domes are hemispherical in shape. Teacher said there are domes on the top of pillars too.

On the basis of this information, answer the following questions: [ Use π=227]

(A) Find the volume of the four pillars with hemispherical tops, if the height of cylindrical part is 7.5 m
and radii of cylindrical base and hemispherical dome is 2.8 m each.
(B) Find the volume of the four pilars with hemispherical tops, if the height of cylndrical part is 7.5 m
and radii of cylindrical base and hemispherical dome is 2.8 m each.
