Blue star is a significant name. Blue Star Ltd, is an Indian multinational home
appliances company, headquartered in Mumbai, India. This company manufacturer, air
 Sector Project 1 conditioning, commercial refrigeration and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and
Fire-fighting) with over 78 years of experience. it is the country's second largest
 Sector Project 2 homegrown player in the air conditioning space. Blue Star was founded in 1943 by
Mohan T Advani as a reconditioning company. Soon after inception, Blue Star ventured
into the manufacturing of ice candy machines and bottle coolers and began the design

and execution of central air conditioning projects, followed by the manufacturing of
water coolers. The company later expanded into new product lines and began
 Research Insight-2 exporting to Dubai. It went public in 1969 with an initial public offering, listing on the
Bombay Stock Exchange.
Blue Star has four manufacturing plants, which are located in
 Research Insight-3 Dadra, Wada, and Ahmedabad. In addition, the company is currently in the process of
setting up a plant in Sri City.
Blue Star has a presence in 18 countries in the Middle
East, Africa, SAARC and ASEAN regions. Blue Star has three Joint Ventures in Oman,

Qatar and Malaysia. The company has subsidiaries in UAE, Qatar and India. The
company serves the Middle East market via its UAE subsidiary. The company's
 MyScore subsidiary in India is called Blue Star Engineering & Electronics Ltd .

Whirlpool of India Limited headquartered in Gurugram, is now one of the leading
manufacturers and marketers of major home appliances in the country. Whirlpool
entered India in the late 1980s as part of its global expansion strategy. In 1995
Whirlpool acquired Kelvinator India Limited and marked an entry into the refrigerator
market. The company owns three state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities at Faridabad,
Pondicherry and Pune.
Whirlpool (NSE:WHIRLPOOL) entered India in the late 1980s as
part of its global expansion strategy. It forayed into the market under a joint venture
with TVS group and established the first Whirlpool manufacturing facility in
Pondicherry for washing machine category. In 1995 Whirlpool acquired Kelvinator India
Limited and marked an entry into the refrigerator market as well. The same year the
company also saw acquisition of major shares in TVS joint venture and later in 1996,
Kelvinator and TVS acquisitions were merged to create, Whirlpool of India Limited.
This expanded the company's portfolio in the Indian subcontinent to washing
machines, refrigerator, microwave ovens and air conditioners.
The company achieved a
revenue from operations for the year ended 31st March, 2021 was Rs 5,899.8 Crores
which was lower by 1.5% compared to last year. The decrease in revenue was on
account of covid induced lockdown in Q1, which is the peak season for the durables
industry leading to a significant erosion of demand. There was a strong recovery in
subsequent quarters due to pent up demand and its focus on product innovation,
distribution expansion and tie ups with Ecommerce channel partners helped it gain
share in the post opening up period. Cash and Cash equivalents as at 31st March,
2021 was Rs 2,060.46 Crores. The company generated Rs 524.14 Crores as cash from
operating activities on the back of string working capital management. After the
investments in capital expenditure and redemption of unquoted debt securities, there
was net addition of Rs. 786.3 Crores to the cash and cash equivalents during the year
thereby maintaining a strong liquidity position.
The Board of Directors have
recommended a final dividend of INR 5.00 per equity share amounting to INR 634
Million for the year 2020-21.
The company’s Exports business grew by 29% during the
financial year despite 3 months of slowdown in business due to Covid-19. The
initiatives around network restructuring in some countries have started to pay off with
high growths in Nepal and Bhutan.
Being a consumer of whirlpool refrigerator since
birth, I'm personally interested in its business activities and studying the company.
