NAC Load - Wiring and DB Calcs FX V4a
NAC Load - Wiring and DB Calcs FX V4a
(NAC) as well
as audio circuits if you know the device loads and panel specs.
- Distances will be worst case (end loaded) based on lowest possible NAC starting voltage (low battery). Longer
distances may be achieved if you know the distances between each device (point to point wiring). See Detailed Dist.
Calc sheet for calculations.
- If using Edwards - Kidde signaling devices, you can use the Load NAC( ) sheets to calculate circuit loads, which can
then be entered below for NAC( ) operating currents.
- The Load SpkrStrb sheet is for speaker loading (used with audio panels). The strobe currents from that sheet will have
to be assigned to one or more of the 24V NACs.
Typical fire alarm audio amplifier voltage is 25 or 70Vrms, but may be different depending on amplifier used (must
check amplifier's spec).
Notes:
1) For public mode fire alarm applications you should be at least 15dB above ambient noise levels, or 5dB above the
maximum noise level having a duration of at least 60 seconds, whichever is greater, measured at 5 ft above the floor
(or 75dB minimum in sleeping rooms, measured at the pillow).
2) Speaker circuit cable must be a minimum of 18 gauge twisted pair. Shielded cable may be necessary in areas of
high electrical noise.
3) "T" tapping of NAC (Notification Appliance Circuit) wiring is NOT permitted.
4) Speaker circuit wiring should not exceed -1dB loss. In some cases, a spec may not allow more than a -0.5dB loss.
5) dB calculations are based on the distances being directly in front of the signaling device under ideal conditions.
Room acoustics and angles off center can affect actual dB readings.
6) If using a speaker with a higher voltage rating than the amplifier, you must de-rate speaker output by amount
shown. Example: If 70V speaker is rated at 90dB, then is connected to an amplifier that outputs 25V, speaker dB will
be less by the amount shown. You cannot connect a speaker to an amplifier with a higher voltage rating.

1) Enter quantities below per circuit in yellow boxes. Totals will appear to the right.
2) Be sure total does not exceed panel's NAC rating.
3) For FWR power supplies, such as with most Edwards - Kidde FA panels, use the FWR
currents. Total FWR Current Load = 0 amps
4) For DC power supplies, such as the EBPS6(10)A booster supplies, use the dc Total DC Current Load = 0 amps
currents.
5) Currents are worst case (U.L. nameplate) values.
6) This page does not list all the available fire alarm signals. Refer to catalog for
