DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS
Os pronomes demonstrativos têm a função de indicar algo. São eles:

“this” (este/esta), “that” (aquele/aquela), “these” (estes/estas), “those” (aqueles/aquelas).

 O pronome “this” deve ser usado para indicar algo que está no singular e próximo do
falante.
Ex: This car is really cool. (Este carro é muito legal).
This is my new bike. (Esta é a minha nova bicicleta).

 Ao se referir a algo no singular e distante, o falante deverá utilizar o “that”.

Ex: That is my new neighbor. (Aquele é o meu vizinho).
That woman is my friend. (Aquela mulher é minha amiga).

 No entanto, ao se referir a algo perto, só que no plural, o falante deverá utilizar o

“these”.
Ex: These tickets are too expensive. (Estes ingressos são muito caros).
These magazines are interesting. (Estas revistas são interessantes).

 O “those” deve ser usado toda vez que o falante quiser demonstrar algo no plural e que
está distante dele.
Ex: Those are my classmates. (Aqueles são meus colegas de classe).
Those kids are intelligents. (Aquelas crianças são inteligentes).

Recordando:
“This” → perto/singular
“These” → perto/plural
“That” → longe/singular
“Those” → longe/plural
Exercises:

1) Escolha o pronome demonstrativo correto (Circule dentro do parênteses a resposta correta):

a) flowers are for my mother. (this – these)
b) apples are from my garden. (this – these)
c) Come on! is our bus. (those – that)
d) are my brothers. ( this – these)
e) presents are for you. ( this – these)
f) is Teachers John’s wife ( this – these) and are his children. (those – that)
g) is Mek’s book. (those- that)
h) is my brother (this – these) and are my parents. (those – that)

2) Write in the plural. (observe que o adjetivo não varia)

EX: This pen is big. These pens are big.

a)This color is very beautiful.

b)This house is very expensive.

c) This boy is happy.

3)Traduza as frases para o português.

a)That girl is my friend.

b)These balls are yellow.
c)Those houses are beautiful.
d)This pen is very good.

4) Complete com this, these, that ou those, de acordo com o que esta entre parênteses :

a) I need to stop for a coffee. Is all right with you? ( longe – singular)
b) Do you like trousers? I bought them yesterday. (perto- plural)
c) Look at man over there! He's not wearing any clothes! (longe- singular)
d) Her new house cost over half a million pounds. is a lot of money. ( longe – singular)
e) Hello. is Patrick. Can I speak to Murray, please?(perto – singular)

5) Complete com This ou These:

a) pencil is no good.
b) is Michelle's pen.
c) computer is expensive.
d) girls are from my college.
e) bikes are mountain bikes.

6) Complete com That ou Those:

a) desk is mine.
b) is a good answer.
c) questions are too difficult.
d) isn't a nice thing to say.
e) dogs bark all day.
