DECIDING ON METHODOLOGY
WORKSHEET IV
This worksheet should help you in coming to terms with the procedures you will use in carrying
out your project. There are two parts to it: (1) subject identification and selection and (2)
selection of the appropriate research design.
1. State your research question or problem here.
Our idea is focusing on the difference between ADHD and ADD, how does ADHD clinically differ in age,
gender, and culture (behavior, combabilities, diagnosis (DSM-5), cognitive, and coping).
2. Subject Identification and Selection
A. Identify the population/subjects you plan to study here (e.g. occupational
therapists, occupational therapy assistants, students, clients, medical or academic
records, consumers, or others)

Occupational therapists, clients, students

B. Describe the population/subjects based on your literature review and your
plan for the project here (e.g. Occupational therapy faculty and effective
teaching methods for research, males in occupational therapy and why they chose
a female dominated profession; Occupational therapy alumni and factors that lead
to success on the NBCOT exam, or others)

Therapist experience with patients with ADHD.(Outpatient vs inpatient)

C. What selection criteria for the population do you intend to use to select
your sample (e.g. written records, occupational therapists who work in home
health, occupational therapists in AL in the school system, elderly clients over the
age of 80, AOTA membership list, or others)

Occupational therapist who worked in an impatient rehabilitation center

(any age clients)

3. Selection of Appropriate Research Design.

a. Identify all attributes/variables gleaned from the literature review that you
believe will have a bearing on your study (e.g. age, gender, years of experience, ethnic
group, OTA and/or OTR, highest degree in professional field, grip strength, types of
clients served, type of disability, socioeconomic status, test scores, type of intervention or
others).

Target: All age group, both female and male, African American
and Caucasian groups, ADHD and ADD disabilities.
Researcher: OTR

b. Will you manipulate any of the variables listed above? Y N

List or name them here.

N/A
What are these variables called in the research process? ____________variables.

c. Which of the variables listed in (a) do you expect to change, has been measured,
or will be measured as a result of those you listed in (b)?

N/A
N/A
What is (are) these variables called in the research process?_______________variables

d. Will you randomly assign your subjects to groups? Y N If yes explain the
methods you plan to use.
.
e. Based on your response to item (d), indicate here whether your project plan fits
an experimental or non-experimental design by checking the appropriate space.

Experimental Design Non-Experimental Design

______True experimental design _______Variables are fixed?

• Randomization? _______Variables are already measured?

• Control group?

______Quasi-experimental design

• Lack of randomization?
• Lack of control?

f. State the design that fit your project and use research notation to diagram the
design if appropriate.
