Tools & Equipment

Tools and Equipment Description

1) Tri Square A Tri square is a material used in the
workshop to create lines that are
straight (90 Degrees) and efficient.

2) Tenon Saw A Tenon saw is a cutting tool used to

remove excess material.

3) Coping Saw A Coping Saw is also a cutting tool used

for much detail and smaller removal of
material.

4) Disc Sander A Disc sander is a tool used to sand and

create curves. It only creates curves after
the excess material has been cut off.

8 Technology Assessment Task 1 Due Date: Term 2, Week 4

5) Drill Press A Drill Press is a machine used to

drill/create holes. This machine also has
a drill that can be adjusted to cut wood into
certain shapes.

6) Ruler A ruler is used to measure distances.

7) Vise A vise is a tool used to hold objects firmly in

place so they can be chopped or cut.

8) Bench Hook A bench hook is a wooden board used to

cut materials on. It is clamped to a vise,
so that while you are cutting it will stay
in place.

9) Sandpaper Sandpaper is a type of material used to smooth

surfaces.

8 Technology Assessment Task 1 Due Date: Term 2, Week 4

10) PVA Glue PVA glue is an adhesive substance used for

sticking objects together.

11) Pencil A pencil is used to draw markings on the wood

therefore making the use of the tri-square
easier and helping to cut pieces more
accurately.

12) Hammer Used to Hammer the nails into the wood,

making the wood hold together and
inseparable.

13) Nails Used to connect pieces of wood together.

Production
1) Landing Skids
For creating the Landing Skids, I used:
- Ruler - Tenon saw - Pencil - Disc Sander

Steps:
1. Cut 160mm Length x 20mm Width x 12mm Height
2. Round the front and back of the Landing Skid using a disc sander
3. Sand to size and smooth

2) Landing Skids Support

For making the Landing Skids Support, I used:
- Ruler - Pencil - Tenon Saw - Disc Sander

Steps:
1. Take measurements and cut Width: 20mm x Height: 12mm x Length: 160mm
2. Sand both ends of the Landing Skids’ Supports using a disc sander
3. Sand to size and smooth

3) Cockpit
For making the Cockpit, I used:
- Tenon/Coping saw - Pencil - Ruler - Sandpaper - Disc Sander

Steps:
1. Take measurements and cut 40mm wide x 40mm tall x 40mm long
2. sand to size and smooth

4) Rear cabin
For making the Rear Cabin, I used:
- Ruler - Disc Sander - Pencil - Tenon Saw

Steps:
1. Measure and cut 20mm Width x 40mm Height x 40mm Length
2. Sand smooth and to size

5) Cockpit Platform
For making the Cockpit Platform, I used:
- Disc Sander - Ruler - Pencil - Tenon Saw

Steps:
1. Measure and cut 40mm Width x 10mm Height x 100mm Length
2. Sand smooth and to size

6) Tail Boom
For making the Tail Boom, I used:
- Disc Sander - Ruler - Pencil - Tenon Saw - Coping Saw - Barrel Sander

Steps:
1. Measure and cut 40mm Width x 19mm Height x 190mm Length
2. Measure the Radius 20mm and 70mm from edge
3. Cut radius with coping saw and smooth surface using barrel sander
4. Sand smooth and to size

7) Top And Bottom Drive Shaft

For making the Top and Bottom Drive Shaft, I used:
- Ruler - Pencil - Tenon saw -Drill press - Hole saw -Disc Sander

Steps:
1. Measure and drill TWO 25 Diameter drive shafts using a diameter of 25 Holesaw
from a 19 Thick piece of timber
2. Dill Diameter 8 hole in the center
3. Sand smooth and to size

8) Rotor Blade
When making the Rotor Blade, I used:
- Ruler - Pencil - Tenon saw - Drill press - HSS Diameter - No. 6 Twist drill
- Disc Sander

Steps:
1. Measure and cut Rotor Blade 200mm Length x 12mm Width
2. Measure and drill Dia.6 hole in the middle of the Rotor Blade
3. Sand smooth and to size

9) Landing Skids Arrangement

When making the Landing Skids Arrangement, I used:
- Nails - Ball Peen Hammer -PVA Glue - Cloth -Disc Sander

Steps:
1. Separate the landing skid supports by 100mm from the center.
2. Apply a dab of PVA glue between the Landing Skid and the Landing Skid Supports,
wiping away any excess glue with a cloth if necessary.
3. Nail TWO 1.5mm x 20mm length bullethead nails (8 OFF) at each joint, nail punching
the nails 1-2 mm below the surface
4. Sand smooth

10) Finishing Off

To finish off the project, I used:
- Oil - Brush - Nails - Disc Sander - PVA Glue

Steps:
1. Stick and Nail all the pieces together to form your final helicopter
2. Use the Disc Sander to sand any uneven Parts in your Helicopter
3. Once all Finished, use a Brush and oil to fully complete your Helicopter
4. Paint or Spray paint your Helicopter, with any color of your choice
