1) Given that for all values of x, ( x  p)(2 x2  9 x  10)  ( x 2  4)(2 x  q)

a) find the constants p and q [4]

b) Hence, solve the equation ( x  p)(2 x 2  9 x  10)  0 [2]

2) The cubic polynomial f(x) is given by 2 x3  ax2  bx  15 , where a and b are constants.

It was given that ( x  3) is a factor of f(x) and that when f(x) is divided by ( x  2) the
remainder is 35.

a) Find the values of a and b. [6]

b) Using the values for a and b, divide f(x) by ( x  3) . [3]

3) The cubic equation x3  px2  qx  r  0 , where p, q and r are real, has roots ,  and γ.
Given that       4 and  2   2   2  20
